. - In a historic vote, the Washington State Senate on Wednesday repealed the death penalty.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle were optimistic 2018 could bring the end of Washingtons death penalty, following changes in senate leadership and years of stalled attempts in the state Legislature.
Under earlier Washington state law, individuals found guilty of aggravated first-degree murder could be put to death by hanging or lethal injection.
Washingtons death penalty has been seldom used in recent years. In 2014, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee placed a moratorium on capital punishment, suspending the practice for as long as hes in office. The states last execution occurred in 2010 when Cal Coburn Brown, convicted for the 1991 rape and murder of 21 year-old Holly Washa, was put to death by lethal injection.

Seems many anti death penalty people are pro gun control.
And pro abortion.
IDIOTS
So our tax dollars can prolong the life
of one who took a life, with no remorse.
Like Manson who lived many years after
his irrefutable conviction. There are
those that truly deserve the wrath.
Green River killer says thanks
In most cases it costs more to croak them. Capital punishment ain’t cheap. So don’t use that argument. :-)
He made a deal with the idiot reichert that took death penalty off the table. He was never at risk - unfortunately.
Not just him, his ilk can go on hunting
and he feared death
and it may be a sloppy plea, he may have confessed to some murders just to get them off the books
You realize that we also pay for their 20 years of appeals even to a life sentence
It really seems that government has no sense to protect its citizens and will bend over backwards for illegals and other murderous criminals. I would give a little credit if they stayed away from 2A and fought the infanticide of abortion but I suspect most of these scum politicians are not that way. Many days I just think,”let’s just get CWII on”, before America turns into a lawless sh*thole altogether of Clockwork Orange,Mad Max and Escape from New York.
Libs protect guilty people and allow innocents to be slaughtered.
That is why you cannot compromise with a socialist. Ever. You win against them. And then destroy anything useful to their warped agenda.
The death penalty is useful, because prosecutors can get thugs to confess in exchange for taking it off the table. They get life in prison, but it saves the possibility of a jury doing the wrong thing and often the killer offers up more information, such as the location of a body.
For example, Seattle just vacated all pot busts back to 1992.
So much for the rule of law.
I still remember what Dean Martin said in ROUGH NIGHT IN JERICHO.
“We’ll hang him tomorrow right after the trial.”
they've already raised our property taxes to the utter glee of their favored group the teachers....
I despise them, and the people that vote for them, mostly idiot govt workers...
Re: “Green River killer says thanks”
In Washington state he’s doing life without possibility of parole.
In exchange for life he showed the Police where he dumped most of the missing bodies.
In recent years, they have tried to tie him to one murder in Oregon and one murder in Nevada.
I think both those states still have the death penalty, but I have not heard a word about those investigations for at least a year.
They have more than their share of sickos. Like Westley Alan Dodd. How well I remember...
I go back and forth on the death penalty. Here in Washington State, because of the Green River killer's no death penalty, it is pretty far-fetched that anyone would get it now. (Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my client only killed 6 people, while the Green River killer killed dozens and gets to live).
The cost (to the state) on actually getting to the death penalty carried out I've heard is more than just keeping the guy in for life (attorney's fees).
I think life in prison is the worst you can do to somebody - solitary, no TV, no books, etc.
However - you do bring up a very good point that the death penalty can bring more cases to be solved (like the Green River Killer). I imagine if we made for swifter sentencings and execution it might be a deterrent - but I wonder how many of these guys think they will get caught in the first place?
