Ron Paul warns E-Verify threatens us all
The Investor’s Wire ^ | 02/13/2018 | Ron Paul

... Some supporters of E-Verify deny the program poses any threat to civil liberties, as it will only be used to verify citizenship or legal residency. They even claim a system forcing individuals to have their identities certified by the government is not a national ID system. These individuals are ignoring the history of government programs sold as only affecting a particular group or being used for a limited purpose being expanded beyond initial targets. For example, Americans were promised that only the wealthiest Americans would ever pay income taxes. And some of the PATRIOT Act’s worst provisions that we were told would only be used against terrorists are routinely used to investigate drug crimes.

E-Verify almost certainly will be used for purposes unrelated to immigration. One potential use of E-Verify is to limit the job prospects of anyone whose lifestyle displeases the government. This could include those accused of failing to pay their fair share in taxes, those who homeschool or do not vaccinate their children, or those who own firearms.

Unscrupulous government officials could use E-Verify against those who practice antiwar, anti-tax, anti-surveillance, and anti-Federal Reserve activism. Those who consider this unlikely should remember the long history of the IRS targeting the political enemies of those in power and the use of anti-terrorism laws to harass antiwar activists. They should also consider the current moves to outlaw certain types of “politically incorrect” speech, such as disputing the alleged “consensus” regarding climate change. ...

To verify illegals, green cards, students/tourists who are here legally but are illegals if they work, and citizens ... to verify all of this, the natural tendency will be to check the many other government and commercial databases.

That leads to one big database. I work on some of these databases. Inevitably the government has all the info on you. Due to database errors, maybe 1% of the people will be mis-identified. That means 1% of illegals get jobs ... and 1% of citizens or maybe 1 million are blocked from getting jobs. If they can improve the database to 0.5% then that is maybe only 500,000 citizens blocked from getting jobs. No government database is anywhere close to that accurate right now.

Every call for increasing the accuracy of the database is a call for ever more intrusive government accounting of your personal life.

Then consider, we often flip between an Obama and a Trump, back and forth. What is to prevent the next Obama from adding to the rejection list, fir domestic violence people who used a gun, then eventually anyone on the gun list... because they present danger in the workplace.

e-verify is the spring board for every snowflake fantasy.

Could be, might be, blah blah blah.

So, St. Ron Paul, what is your solution to the gazillions of illegals in the US?

Even folks on Free Republic are beginning to realize that there really is a “Deep State” power structure that is in the ever increasing business of weaponizing government agencies and tools against the subjects they intend to control.

How badly do we want to add this tool to their arsenal?

Is there any other way we can achieve our ends, that doesn’t involve giving the Deep State the weapons it craves?

I believe the Deep State wants and intends to add E-Verify to its personal arsenal, and E-Verify’s primary purpose will ultimately not be any service to us, any more than the FED, the FISA Court, the Patriot Act, the IRS or the DOJ have been once they were weaponized.

“E-Verify almost certainly will be used for purposes unrelated to immigration.”

Totally true. Remember the “Patriot Act”.

Besides isn’t it the fedgov’s job to regulate immigration and the borders?

Where the hell do they get off forcing companies to do THEIR job?

Do companies get paid to “e-verify” everyone? Or is this another job they have to do for free for the fedgov?

Sickening. 6 posts of PRO before ONE pointing out the obvious. Prob. the same peeps, every 2 years, screaming, “If you DON’T vote for the (R), you’re voting for the (D)”...’cuz (R) have been STELLAR at the whole ‘small govt’ thing, right? *SMH*

There has NEVER been a ‘nose under the tent’ that hasn’t been broadened WAY PAST its intended purpose(s).

“Oh, no, the tax code will NEVER target the ‘non-rich’”, “..tax code will NEVER get above 3%”, “FISA will ONLY be used against FOREIGN...”, “NSA doesn’t gobble up ALL electronic communication!”

>You need a system to check on people’s legal status.

Just the pro-illegal alien activists are trying to whip up opposition to a sensible and necessary system.
>

WHOM ‘needs’? Sure isn’t the job of BIZ to ensure Fedzilla is doing ITS job (for FREE...just like taxes).

Doesn’t Fedzilla track whom they grant permission to? Why not allow biz to tap into THAT data...if they wish?

I understand his perspective, but it is necessary to ensure that everyone working in America has the residency status that they need to do so.

I didn’t realize Citizens needed any such ‘status\permissions’.

Loving those falling-back on the SSN; as if *that* Ponzi scheme were the epitome of govt functionality (Oh, that’s right, it too started off the same, “The SSN will NEVER be used for anything BUT SS. It’s NOT an ‘ID card\#’ per se.”).

> The only people who have reason to fear E-Verify are employers hiring illegals or illegals trying to get jobs. E-Verify should be top on list of immigration fix! > The only people in favor of e-Verify are those thinking yet another govt. intrusion upon our Liberties and Freedom will somehow 'fix' the issue of govt *NOT* doing its primary roles....its J-O-B. "Fixing" the illegal immigration 'problem' is quite easy: - Enforce the LAW (Constitutionally authorized) - Terminate the welfare state (restore the 5th/9th/10th/13th) - PROPERLY read and apply the plain English of the 14th - PROSECUTE *EVERYONE* breaking the law (starting w/ *GOVT*) [HUGE fines per violation, long/hard prison sentences per violation, work\labor camps, etc...with a high FLOOR\min., but no ceiling]. Make the punishment *HURT*. - Open bounty system; same as they do w/ 'crime stoppers' "You may be entitled to $$$...." Really want to drive it home? Pass reciprocity laws: Good enough for ? Good enough for their citizens breaking OUR law(s). No wall needed (yet?), no e-Verify. Give it 5 yrs. to work and tweak as needed. Unfort., even "(C)" love 'em some Fascism+ when it comes to THEIR pet-project(s).

Open borders for us (L) are a MULTI prong fix (see HERE)

Shame it takes a (L) to point out A1S8\Constitutional authority to *anyone* on a supposedly "(R)N(C)" board...though I doubt there's any shame acknowledged.

E-Verify is not run by the US Government, at all.

It is run by the collection of the States.

Isn’t it the fedgov’s job to collect taxes? Where do they get of having your employer do that? Where do they get off have every business do that with sales tax?

“Isn’t it the fedgov’s job to collect taxes? Where do they get of having your employer do that? Where do they get off have every business do that with sales tax?”

Exactly.

Businesses are unpaid tax collectors.

Since the fedgov gets away with that, they’re piling on more unpaid jobs for businesses to do.

All part or destroying American free enterprise.

e verify is only going to be misused by the bad guys.

employers are already required to check and verify a bunch of ids for employees. Every payroll processor ( ADP ) has a service that checks the ids provided.

It’s a routine verify system that is run by private enterprise - much better than any gov‘t system

Right because legal people don't have any reason to have the government know their social security number or DL# or passport or green card number, oh except so the freakin illegal aliens that stole their way, stole their jobs and government benefits with their stolen Id's from legal residents of the United States might be denied their stole jobs and hopefully have their thieving asses booted out of the United States.

Really sorry Ronny Paul finds that to be an unacceptable infringement on our rights. Hey, infringement........FRINGE, there old Ron in his nutshell. I wonder where all the Paulistas have done?

The politicians refused to do their duty, and created this problem. Their “solution” is for us to sacrifice our liberty instead of them dealing with the invaders. They want every American in their database, and for us to have to get permission from a bureaucrat in order to work and earn our daily bread. It’s dangerous, and it’s un-American.

For all of those reasons and more, I’ve been warning people about E-Verify for years.
