For the record, I have always been against the U.S. having any involvement there. The civil war has been in our interest. I wish Obama and Trump wouldn't be doing anything there.
If Putin wants to serve his Iranian masters by fighting there, that's his business, but let's not pretend he's some kind of hero or fighting against the bad guys or protecting Christians.
No one is protecting Christians there. No one cares. Syria started with the "Arab Spring" cover in a strategic attempt to prize Syria from the Iran/Russia grasp using ISIS and Jihadi groups, and make Syria a pathway for Saudi and Gulf pipelines. The result was destruction of Syria, a million Syrians in Europe, the rise of ISIS and a strategic victory for Putin and Iran. Didn't quite work out as Obama, Clinton and McCain planned.
Trump is facing a Nixon in Vietnam situation. He's been handed a total mess, created by the previous administration. Does Trump want Russian and Americans shooting at each other in Syria? I don't think so.
“If Putin wants to serve his Iranian masters by fighting there, that’s his business, but let’s not pretend he’s some kind of hero or fighting against the bad guys or protecting Christians.”
Putin is serving Russian interests, exclusively.
He is protecting Russia’s access to a warm water Mediterranean port and air base south of the Bosporus.
He is also honoring a formal treaty to protect the government and territory of Syria. Something that is necessary to be seen as a reliable partner on the world stage.
I appears the only reason for the US is there is to thwart Russia. And that’s piss-poor foreign policy.
They have put the caliphate movement in retreat, and somehow now, some have shamefully given the credit to Trump.
It appears Trump is murfing into McCain. Sad, not what he ran on..
