The impression I get from the literature is that some homosexual men are just looking for better mental health overall. Homosexuality correlates with OCD, with depression, anxiety, etc.
The idea of “conversion,” I think, is overdone: they’re not looking to change from being obsessed with buggering men to being obsessed with buggering women. They just want some psychological equilibrium that is sustainable.
