A leading Malaysian newspaper has published a list of pointers for identifying potential gay and lesbian people, drawing anger from activists who said lives were being put at risk.
The article in Sinar Harian featured bullet points of supposedly distinctive qualities that revealed LGBT people. They stated that gay men were easy to identify because of their love of beards, going to the gym – not for exercise but to check out other men – and branded clothing. Their eyes light up when they see handsome men, the article said.
The stand-out attributes for lesbians were that they tend to hug each other, hold hands and belittle men, according to the newspaper.
Homosexuality is illegal in Malaysia and punishable under a colonial-era sodomy law that carries a 20-year prison sentence.
Campaigners have called for a softening of rhetoric in Malaysian media after a series of recent deaths of men and women suspected of being gay or transgender.
An 18-year old student, T Nhaveen, was beaten and burned to death last year by classmates who said he was pondan, a colloquial term for a gay man. A 27-year-old transgender woman, Sameera Krishnan, was attacked with a knife and and shot three times in a targeted attack in her florist shop a few months later.
Arwind Kumar, an activist and one of Malaysia’s biggest social media stars, lashed out at the Sinar Harian article, saying it could “take away lives”.
“There are much more important issues in this country which need to be addressed,” he said. “If you really want to educate society then explain to them the traits of a paedophile, a molester, a murderer, a kidnapper, people who actually endanger the lives of others. How the hell does a gay person endanger your life?”

My wife and I were having breakfast in Provincetown, MA some years back (a Portuguese fishing town that became a homosexual enclave) and we were playing the “Who Is and Who Isn’t game.
There were two men at a table close enough to hear them converse, and there was nothing in their speech or manner to indicate if they were or weren’t homosexual. They sounded perfectly normal.
Then the door opened and two guys they knew came in, and their speech suddenly turned into full-blown lilted homosexual speech!
My wife and I nearly fell on the floor! So I think you are spot on...that mannerism is a calling signal, as you put it!

At my last workplace my best friend was a gay guy, he was a typical Yorkshire bloke, no-nonsense, blunt speaking, down-to-earth, he was mad about cricket and loved nothing more than going out the pub for a couple of ales talking about sports and politics and making off-colour jokes.
I once said to him, “You know what? You are a huge disappointment to me”. “Why?” he asked.
“Well,” I said, “I have seen all those American TV shows and I know what a gay best friend is supposed to be like and you are useless. You are hopeless at giving relationship advice, you have no great line in catty remarks, you can’t help me with home design and your fashion sense is even worse than mine”.
He stared grimly in front, sipped his beer and said “that’s because I am gay, I’m not a f%^king poof!”
Can Malaysian dudes even grow a beard? Never seen any Asians with a beard before as a matter of fact.
I know several homosexual men who appear normal in every way. Most of the "obvious" ones have suffered severe childhood traumas and abuse which made them mental/emotional messes and they refuse psychological assistance - maybe they prefer to troll the Q posts....

No more horrible than homosexual activists insisting that Christian businesses "mark" themselves if they refuse to service homosexual "weddings," Star-of-David style.
