How Nunes attacks the Constitution when he tries to smear Mueller’s Russia probe
Vallejo Times-Herald ^ | February 11, 2018 | Erwin Chemerinsky

It is increasingly clear that President Donald Trump and the Republicans are engaging in a campaign to smear and discredit special prosecutor Robert Mueller. All of this is an effort to undermine an investigation into whether serious federal crimes occurred that potentially implicate individuals at the highest levels of the government, including Trump and members of his family.

The need for an independent criminal investigation is clear. Was there illegal collusion between Trump campaign officials and Russians? Has there been a cover-up that constitutes obstruction of justice? If so, who is responsible?

Contrary to the president’s assertion, this is not a partisan “witch hunt.” Already two individuals have plead guilty to federal crimes. George Papadopoulos plead guilty to lying to the FBI about his efforts, while a Trump campaign official, to set up meetings with Kremlin-connected sources who claimed to have damaging information about Hillary Clinton. Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn plead guilty to “willfully and knowingly” making “false, fictitious and fraudulent statements” to the FBI about communications exchanged with a Russian envoy shortly after Trump took office.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager for a time, and Rick Gates, his aide, have been indicted for the crime of “conspiracy against the United States.” They have been charged with operating as agents of foreign governments without registering as required by the law and laundering over $75 million in offshore accounts.

Erwin Chemerinsky is currently the dean of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.

A study of legal publications between 2009 and 2013 found Erwin Chemerinsky to be the second-most frequently cited American legal scholar, behind Cass Sunstein.

Chemerinsky supports gun control.

Chemerinsky believes that Roe v. Wade was correctly decided.

He also believes that gay marriage should be legal.

Chemerinsky also represents a client held at the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

He supports affirmative action.

In January 2017, Chemerinsky, along with other high-profile lawyers, sued President Donald Trump for refusing to “divest from his businesses”.

“..engaging in a campaign to smear and discredit special prosecutor Robert Mueller.”

I don’t recall the Muehler’s investigation being mentioned in the House Intelligence Committee’s media releases. Did I miss something?

No “campaign” is needed!

Every day the Mueller investigation further self-destructs!

IOW, he has an agenda for pushing the fake news of Trump/Russia and refusing to report what is really going on.

A few good Supreme Court decisions would put an end to that.

I was just spending a couple nights there on an outing. It’s an old Navy Base that built and refurbished ships from 1855 to 1996 when base realignment shuttered it. You would think there might be some residual conservatism in Vallejo, but 22 years is a long time for the California and Democrat diseases to infect the place. The diseases seem deep rooted based on them publishing this garbage.

The Sunday edition was at least an inch thick...lots of heft.

Then I found the main front page section was about 20 pages, the sports section about 8 pages, and the comics 4 pages. All the rest was ads. Not much content at all.

The front page did cover the event I was at this weekend. I talked at length this afternoon with the woman in the photo and learned a lot about raptors.

She had this really cool Eurasia eagle-owl on display while we were talking. At first I thought he was stuffed like several other raptors on display, but his head moved a tiny bit which I caught out of the corner of my eye and startled me (I wasn't expecting the stuffed owl to come alive). He exhibited great flight or fight posture when a little dachshund walked by on a leash. He goes into an alert posture, gets about an inch taller, and his feathers all smoothed down ready for flight.

I no wonder return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of the Infinite Dark and Fetid Swamp Sedition and Corruption.

How so? That somebody could be so far off his rocker to believe this tripe?

That’s what struck me, too.

The Leaders at FBI and DOJ have done an outstanding job smearing themselves. What does that have to do with Trump ostensibly somehow attacking or smearing Mueller. He is conflating two completely different things that are only loosely related / connected.

Thank you.
