BENTONVILLE, Ark., Feb. 9, 2018 Walmart (NYSE: WMT) announced Rachel Brand will join the company as Executive Vice President, Global Governance and Corporate Secretary. Brand will report to President and CEO Doug McMillon. She will be responsible for the organizations Legal, Global Ethics and Compliance and Global Investigation, Security, Aviation and Travel departments, along with her role as corporate secretary.
We are fortunate to have a leader of Rachel Brands stature join the company, McMillon said. We have strengthened our governance capabilities and Rachel will help us continue on that journey. Her strong character, capabilities and experience will enable her to contribute broadly as we shape the future of Walmart and strive to serve our customers even more effectively.
Brand is replacing Jeff Gearhart, who retired at the end of January. Brand brings deep academic and professional experience to her role, coming to the company from the U.S. Department of Justice, where she served as Associate Attorney General, the departments third-ranking position. Brand, the first woman to serve as Associate Attorney General, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn into office May 22, 2017. As Associate Attorney General, Brand oversaw thousands of attorneys and professionals across the departments civil law divisions, including Antitrust, Tax and Environment and Natural Resources...
She will be joining Walmart April 2 and will relocate to Bentonville with her husband and two boys.

I wish more government lawyers would quit and go to work in the private sector! She’ll make a shite-ton of money and we won’t be paying her pension.
Libs need to stop hating Wal-Mart, they are just as liberal as target now...and have been for some time.
Might be a combination of the two.
Actually a gated neighborhood is not as uncommon as you might think once you get into the countryside. I own a lot in one here in Virginia. Established in the 1960s as a vacation/resort community. 1300+ lots now mostly filled in with houses. Houses range from below $200K to $1 million+ lakeside. Has a lot of amenities inside the community. Run by a HOA, completely fenced, own security, fire, and EMS services. Basic HOA fee: @ $150/month.
Good point. Many high government officials join corporations only to find the cultural change is overwhelming especially in a retail operation.
She was eyed as a likely replacement for Rosenstein. She’s viewed as a conservative.
These kinds of career jumps are really more like sinecure awards but this may be different.
Walmart is needing to compete with Amazon. It now offers free online shipping. It also needs to reorient its supply chain to a more America-centric approach.
So Rachel’s political experience may come in handy as Walmart figures out the new rules of the game under Trump.
I wish her good luck.
Was just at WM last night.
Everything I bought was the same American made product that is available elsewhere, but I paid about 25% less
Groceries, huh?
:D
Yup. And Purina dog food.
And Kitty Litter.
Walmart actually sells those things.
Cheaper.
Along with some .40 cal ammo. Remington has its problems, but I don’t think their stuff is made in China. Yet.
And the universal gas grill regulator I looked at was the exact same one everyone else sells.
Rapala lure I didn’t buy, but intend to, a buck cheaper than any other place I’ve seen it.
You didn’t see those things because you were looking for Chinese stuff to bitch about
I think something like 70% of the things in Walmart are sourced from China.
So I am not just “bitching” about it. This is a big problem. And it is not just Walmart. K-Mart also. Target. Every auto parts store. Every stereo store. Every hardware store.
We need to fix our system. Something is very, very wrong when so much is imported, and from just one country.
This is completely out of hand now. It is time for Trump to live up to his campaign talk.
Make things in America once again.
Probably retired with a full pension........
A fact of which she is no doubt aware:
In 2005, [James B.] Comey left law enforcement for the defense industry, joining money-in-politics powerhouse Lockheed Martin. As senior vice president and general counsel he earned more than $6 million in compensation in his last full year with the company.
Number 2 is an ethically challenged swamp weasel.
Number 1 is asleep on the job.
With shifting storylines, I don’t think anyone wants to get caught up in the maelstrom.
And I find it queer how people move from “justice” jobs into corporate executive positions.
Recall Jamie Gorelick moving from national security to Fannie Mae to counsel for BP and on and on.
I try much lower profile positions in the corporate world and cannot move from tech industry to medical or oil & gas desk jobs.
I see serving her country was not on your list.
If she didn’t want to do that in an honorable fashion, I’m glad she’s gone.
Most likely NOT a conservative! She just jumped a sinking ship.
You might be right about her jumping a sinking ship especially as Rosenstein is caught signing off on a bogus FISA warrant application for Carter Page. But I would not say she’s “most likely” not a conservative as her resume shows she’s worked with Elizabeth Dole, helped get Alito to the Supreme Court, fought against excessive regulations, fought against Obama picks for various agencies.
Walmart offered her a place that is considered too good to turn down. If she had stayed on at Justice, she would likely ascend to Rosenstein’s slot and then have to deal with neverending questions about firing Mueller or not firing Mueller.
The Russia Collusion probe to bring down Trump is a huge waste of time and resources, designed to keep Obama’s ‘resistance’ efforts aimed at Trump.
How to be rid of Mueller and his bogus probe? That’s the hot potato that Rachel Brand would have been tossed.
Mueller’s role in Uranium One will come sharper and sharper into focus. The liar media can be expected to protect his rear but eventually, Congress will have to call him on it. If Republicans keep control of Congress, Mueller will step down by his own conflict of interest, as I see it. The Mueller Probe will shut down after writing a report that will be forgotten.
Sessions needs to go. Christie might be a good pick for AG because his record as a prosecutor is stellar and because it was reported the President said he would have been a better pick than Sessions. A fresh face with a killer instinct aimed at the Swamp would be optimal. That would never have been Rachel Brand I believe.
Rachel made the right move. The situation is too hot to handle in DC now. You are most likely right, the DOJ top echelon is a sinking ship.
I PRAY you are right about Mueller!
Tomatoes are seasonable so vegetables coming from south of the border are necessary for Americans to have fresh vegetables all year round.
honorable fashion = reporting any sedition committed by Rosenstein, Strozck, Page, et al.
Wally needs its head examined for hiring her.
She started looking the moment the IG investigation was announced.
BTW, 2 more House Ds announced they won’t seek reelection, bringing their total to 9.
Think “sex fund” blackmail. Since Rs were way out in front of this with 31 announcing, we should see a massive catch up by Ds (I estimate about 60) before November.)
