The former co-host of outspoken anti-Trump ESPN personality Jemele Hill has slammed the sports cable network, saying the duo was silenced once Hill got caught up in a national controversy with a series of divisive tweets.
Hill hosted the urban version of SportsCenter, branded as SC6, with Michael Smith, her good friend who once refused to anchor the show with a replacement while Hill was suspended. She no longer hosts SportsCenter and the show continues with Smith flying solo.
Smith, on James Andrew Millers Origins podcast, discussed what occurred behind the scenes at ESPN. In the interview that was taped before Hill left the show, he explained that SC6 was created because of the natural chemistry between the co-hosts, but they were forced to dial back the dialogue.
There was a time we werent even talking to each other [on air] anymore, Smith said. Like no more Michael and Jemele, not less, not here and there. No more Michael and Jemele talking. No more of their commentary. Its just strictly live shots and analysis. Thats what pissed me off so much.
The controversial Hill famously called President Trump a white supremacist on Twitter last year. ESPN initially declined to punish her but then sidelined her for two weeks in October when she violated the companys social media guidelines a second time by calling on fans to boycott the Dallas Cowboys advertisers after owner Jerry Jones told players they would be benched if they did not stand up during the national anthem.

They silenced us by not watching our show that had the worst ratings for that time slot in ESPN history.
They silenced you because millions of TV tuned to ESPN went silent when they were turned off because of your obnoxious non-sports political rants.
So quit, you gonif.
“They silenced us....”
And not a moment too soon! You and your ANTIFA loving herd tanked the place. ESPN is now deservedly a shell of itself and its original purpose.
They silenced me too. They never put me on the air.
Yo girl. Da man is keepn u down!
No ones cares about your political opinions. It’s called eSpn for a reason. If I want politics, I’ll turn on CNN/MSNBC/FOX/CBS/NBC/BBC/RT/one of the other 20 channels that covers politics not to mention the millions of political websites out there.
I remember when Obama became President, he really embraced ESPN publicly,,,,which is no big deal. I really think he has had great influence on that Network. I wouldnt even be surprised if the Democrats decided they should own the Sports media like they own the actual media. In any case, ESPN used to have an intelligent take on the fun and games of life. I loved hearing from quick-witted announcers and former players and coaches.
When I was in college, Sports Center was must see. Their This is Sports Center commercials were great stuff.....simultaneously laughing at themselves while delighting in and celebrating the silly games they covered. In short, ESPN knew its place in our lives, but didnt take itself seriously.
Somehow they lost that. Intelligent Reporters like John Saunders (who always had sort of a political take) have seem replaced by people who accuse their viewers of being racist. Was Bruce Jenner really given an ESPY for becoming a woman? Thats not an accomplishment. Its someones personal business. Nothing against Bruce Jenner, but why does ESPN even go there? And their treatment of Colin Kapernick as if he was a modern day Rosa Parks was unnecessary. What if a bunch of players were protesting Barack Obama by wearing MAGA hats during the anthem? Again...why go there?
In the mean time, meaningless phrases such guerilla tactics when describing aggressive tennis play or explaining that you believe men should only use the mens room are treated like extreme affronts to humanity. ESPN arrogantly takes sides and its a mistake. Report and observe...a few comments here and there are OK (I guess), but leave the speechifying for your friends at the Pub on Friday night....like the rest of us do.
Bottom Line: ESPN lost track of what it does and why it exists. They got big, arrogant, sloppy, and stupid. In the name of diversity, theyve become the least diverse business on earth driving away both employees and audience who dont think like they do. In short, they are incompetent. Furthermore, their declining reputation is dragging down the ratings of the sports they cover....costing their clients money. As an audience member all I can is, Im going to the show tonight.
Fire this black male racist.
Has anyone axed her about why she got axed?
Ha! Welcome to our world biznatch. Hope we can silence a lot more of ya’s.
” Its just strictly live shots and analysis. “
In other words, doing what you were hired to do.
One of the most disappointing things about this whole situation is I always liked Jemele Hill. She’s very bright, knows her stuff, and isn’t afraid to mix it up. It’s just somewhere in her brain, she forgot she was working for ESPN and not MSNBC. It’s not that I don’t respect that she has a right to her opinions...she does....it’s just that I want to know who won the game and who got drafted in the first round...not her opinion on President Trump. Once this thing dies down, I’ll give her another chance...to talk about sports. Or perhaps she’ll get a job at MSNBC where she’ll have the appropriate forum for her opinions. ESPN stands for Entirely Sports Programming Network, but lately its been entirely STUPID programming network.
I read something where she’s going to work for Esquire Magazine part time.
Maybe it will be a full time gig. She only cares about black people issues anyhow.
ESPN is Disney.
We cut our cables and went to Sling Blue as our tv channel provider.
Besides savings well over a $125/month, Sling does not carry ESPN, Disney nor ABC.
So now the left wing fags, who own ESPN, Disney, and ABC get zero dollars from us.
So Jemele Hill, you have POed a large % of President Trump’s deplorable when you insulted our President.
Now, make a living tricking your BLM thug buddies.
The market for ranting rabid SJWs is extremely limited, especially among sports audiences that actually care about..... sports.
Never pick a fight with an angry beehive of 64 million Trump Deplorables.
Modified it a little for my latest tagline!
I have to admit,
I did tune in to this show.
Once.
For about 4 minutes.
4 wasted minutes i will never get back.
