And remember in those countries the media is primarily government owned! Here in the US the media is for the most part privately owned. However that does not seem to guarantee independence or even a healthy skepticism in the news boys & girls.

I think all the Clinton Foundation had to do was send out franked invitations for a big picnic in Ft. Marcy Park for all the media types to get them to toe the line.
