WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Defense is planning a military parade at the request of President Donald Trump, White House and Pentagon officials said Tuesday.
After observing the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris last year, Mr. Trump said he wanted to hold a similar parade on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, perhaps to celebrate the Fourth of July.
The French parade last July, which also marked the centennial of the U.S. entry into World War I, featured more than 6,000 service members, tanks and planes overhead in an elaborate display of military might. French President Emmanuel Macron invited Mr. Trump to watch the parade beside him.
“It was one of the greatest parades I’ve ever seen,” Mr. Trump said in September at the Lotte New York Palace hotel. “And to a large extent, because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July Fourth in Washington, down Pennsylvania Avenue. I don’t know. We’re going to have to try and top it.”
The Washington Post first reported the Mr. Trump had asked the Pentagon to arrange an event in the Bastille Day style. Pentagon officials said late Tuesday that plans were in their infancy.
On Wednesday, the chairman of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joe Dunford, acknowledged the parade plans while traveling in Asia. “I’m aware of the president’s request and we are in the initial planning stages to meet the president’s direction,” he said during a stop in Bangkok.
The White House said the decision demonstrated Mr. Trump’s support for the military.

Actually I disagree with you on very little. I just think the parade is a dumb idea. the fact that you have your panties in a wad like a little retarded snowflake who can’t handle the idea of anybody disagreeing with her in any way is more funny than anything else.

I’m not. Actually he was my second choice, and first once Carson dropped out. I just think that this is not a great idea, that’s all. I rather like the guy; he fights hard for the right things, but a big assed military parade is, in my opinion, a waste of money until we can actually declare victory in Iraq or nuke the piss out of Ponyang (or better, Mecca).
I don’t know...I just struggle with people on our side that are ashamed to show open support for the military. It’s weird, almost like all the brainwashing of the left has worked, even on some of us.
Even if I wasn’t sure it would be a good idea, I’d still Trump, my president, the benefit of the doubt and not be hostile to him - that attitude, to me, belongs to McCain, Flake, and the rest of the NeverTrumpers who normally aren’t on these threads.
This is the most surreal thread that I can remember here. This site usually doesn’t carry the water for the Left, but I guess many here do - at least on this issue.
As I see it, a parade gives real Americans a chance to show how much they APPRECIATE the military. It also gives others a chance to show, ONCE AND FOR ALL, how much they HATE THE MILITARY - something that needs to be flushed out.
I have debates on other sites with Leftists who INSIST that the Democrats love the military. I tend to think that they really believe it, despite the decades-long work the Democrats have done to weaken our military - to the point of plotting with the Soviets against Reagan.
The Democrats get away with this crap (working to destroy our military while saying just the opposite) because we DO NOT call them on it. Well, here’s a great chance to call them on it - and what do many people on our side do - COWER IN FEAR of the thought of seeing jeeps, APVs, etc. rolling down our streets. HORRIBLE. Then they use the talking points of the Left to make their case (too expensive, they say - oh come on).
Hopefully Trump presses forward and people on our side can finally learn what TRUE LEADERSHIP is.

I WANTED to join the army, tried 4x, turned down for hearing.
I refuse, however, to be a ‘fan’ or admirer of anyone; no matter who they are or what their position, if I feel they are wrong, I feel they are wrong; I’ll take any lumps that come with that.
I have reverence for ideas, not for men. No one gets the benefit of the doubt, no one, ever; nothing personal.
Even Trump, or any other man, can have, and pursue a stupid idea, and should be called on it and opposed, anyone who isn’t comfortable with that is- to me- as dangerous or more so than the most rabid scheming leftist,
It doesn’t mean I don’t think they are trying to generally do the right thing, it means I think they are wrong about a particular act or policy, and I swhall react violently to anyone or any institution that thinks I shouldn’t express my views!
