Ah, I believe there is some method even in such madness.
It’s an attempt to do man’s way what we would automatically do if we bowed to the Spirit that comes from the Father. The statue isn’t the sin. It is neutral. It can be put to any use. Idolization is the sin. We need Columbus as a Christian morality story, as prone to both standing and falling as any of the bible’s faith greats. Put his story on a plaque by the statue. The sin and the salvation.
It’s amazing how those who get this lobotomy are often both completely lacking balls and yet certifiably nuts.
