Scoop: Trump team considers nationalizing 5G network
Axios ^ | January 28th, 2018 | Jonathan Swan, David McCabe, Ina Fried, Kim Hart

Posted on 01/28/2018 5:07:10 PM PST by Mariner

Trump national security officials are considering an unprecedented federal takeover of a portion of the nation’s mobile network to guard against China, according to sensitive documents obtained by Axios.

Why it matters: We’ve got our hands on a PowerPoint deck and a memo — both produced by a senior National Security Council official — which were presented recently to senior officials at other agencies in the Trump administration.

The main points: The documents say America needs a centralized nationwide 5G network within three years. There'll be a fierce debate inside the Trump administration — and an outcry from the industry — over the next 6-8 months over how such a network is built and paid for.

Two options laid out by the documents:

The U.S. government pays for and builds the single network — which would be an unprecedented nationalization of a historically private infrastructure.

An alternative plan where wireless providers build their own 5G networks that compete with one another — though the document says the downside is it could take longer and cost more. It argues that one of the “pros” of that plan is that it would cause “less commercial disruption” to the wireless industry than the government building a network.

Between the lines: A source familiar with the documents' drafting says Option 2 is really no option at all: a single centralized network is what's required to protect America against China and other bad actors.

Happy now?

Why didn’t Q warn us?

Take a breath - I want to see it work, too, but they have a tough hill in my state.

I can’t speak to the FOIA business, but the FN RFP is public.

The RFP is public - it had to be to get bidders, but what we can't see is any exceptions AT&T took to the RFP, and we can't see the AT&T contract which includes very aggressive marketing targets per state.

You can read it at Firstnet.gov. ALL the carriers have classified deals with the Fed-Gov, so IF parts of the DHS/FN gig are classified and not subject to FOIA, so be it.

In all cases of the FOIA release, that case has never been made, really.

But really, WHAT is your heart burn about this? You must be in a northern Verizon-served state. You obviously have a h@rdon about AT&T, so DO you work for VzW? ;-)

AT&T is a train-wreck in my state. They can set any rates they want with a rubber stamp from the regulators, example: 272% increase in leased circuit rates over 5 years. Every major public safety project I have been involved with over a 45 year career, AT&T was the least responsive, slowest, and laziest vendor which caused delays in EVERY project. Their wireless coverage for broadband is horrendous. Yes, we've tried it ... recently ....and it is still as bad as 5 years ago.

If it works even 80% of the promise, it might enable the First Responder community to live longer and save more lives.

Any public safety grade system needs to be a minimum of 95% coverage and availability, period. 80% is not good enough for a 'go-live' for first responders.

You must have been on the losing VzW bid team ;-). Win the next contract.

I wouldn't work for any of these sleazeball companies. There were many reasons Verizon did not bid, and spectrum was a big one - they don't need the spectrum, but they claim they can do preemption and priority (but have not proven it - and neither has AT&T). Verizon claims they will also have a public safety core (but have not proven it - and neither has AT&T). Whenever I meet with either company, I feel the need to immediately take a shower. Verizon claims they are negotiating with FN for core-to-core interoperability, yet FN denies it. The interoperability plan thus far is 'best effort internet connection with no guaranteed delivery'. That's no way to make it safe and reliable.

Color me jaded - from all of it.

"Happy now?"

The WSJ, leaning more to the left for a few years now, is one of three companies that was recently following through for Axios. 5G doesn't really mean anything in communications terms. And I'll just cut to the quick on the shadow partner. I wouldn't give AT&T the time of day, much less any more of my money than such an entity already takes through socialism.

"Why didn’t Q warn us?"

Do you really want to know?

So you think the Wall Street Journal is “right wing”?

I am just curious.... Did your socialist/communist college professor teach you that?

This is same Wall Street Journal that pushed the FAKE NEWS that Trump is a Russian, working with Putin and stole the election over a year.

This is the same Wall Street Journal that said the economy would collapse in the first year under President Trump. We would never see above a 3.0 GDP. I am happy to see some have woken up over there from their Globalists sleep, but they have ZERO credibility.

This is the same Wall Street Journal that said Hillary Clinton was going to win in a land slide. This is the same Wall Street Journal that said Trump would never win the RNC Primary. This is the same Wall Street Journal that said Trump was not serious about running for President of the United States.

Again you need to go directly to the sources or the best representatives look at the evidence, listen to their points, ask who, what, when, where and why?

For the record, I know their are people within the Government that want Nationalize our Communications like Obamacare wanted to Nationalize the health care. In other words they want a communist system in order to prevent us from communists. Haha!

"I know their are people within the Government that want Nationalize our Communications like Obamacare wanted to Nationalize the health care."

You don't think that the US Government would want to put in a digital double wide front door to everyone's digital house even though Q and Trump are nominally in charge?

Do you want FR to ban all postings except those that directly link to verified documents, video and sound recording?

Even Q is all about vague rumors as he/she/zee/it posts.

Another point....

I don’t think you even understand how Q works and why Q is popular.

Q is popular because Q has been correct about many things. I strongly suggest you do research first before jumping on the Globalists/Swamp Turds bandwagon of disinformation, lies, half truths, tricks and deceits.

Moreover, why would you think Q has to talk about Nationalizing 5G? That’s a political position. Q is NOT about political positions. Q tells you what is going to happen, and has been correct. That has NOTHING to do with taking a political position.

THAT HAS ZERO TO DO WITH Q. Q is telling us what is going on behind the scenes and NOT taking political sides. Man you are being lied too! This is just astounding to see how brainwashed you are! You can go read the other side. It’s not going to hurt you.

I KNOW YOU REALLY BELIEVE everything you hear in the main stream news as fact, and you NEVER QUESTION IT.... They could tell you the sky is green and the grass is blue and you would believe it 100%, and call anyone that tells you what do your eyes see. You would scream conspiracy theorist.

Let me give you a little hint..... What you hear in the Fake Stream News is what they want you to think, and not reality. It’s fantasy land. It has NOTHING to do with truth. You are being lied to and you are falling for it lock, stock and barrel.

"Looks like he also started the “stop the NRA . com” website."

And helped found the Huffington Post and several other rags of the left.

"Looks like I also guessed his religion correctly."

What religion is that?

Yes. The U.S. Army developed the Internet as it began. It would have been a tough communications network and far faster today for everyone, if the crooks hadn’t weakened it and left the remnants of it as trash all over the place.

The government always uses contractors, as it did with DARPA and the Net. It can lay down some design and maintenance rules for companies to follow for national security, or it can allow the big corporations to build something exclusively for the socialist political class while leaving dead trash throughout the countryside (as it did with the landline Internet with tiny inverters in junctions, weak substitutes for trunks, then abandonment).

Anyone for a round of Rollerball?

Doors? They are NOT doors. It has ZERO to do with doors.

It’s data coming over cell towers at 5 Gigahertz. That’s what the letter “G” stands for. Oh I know you thought “G” meant generation.... That “G” is nothing more than a selling point.

Again you are pushing politics. Repeating the same old tired platitudes of Deep State talking points.

Q has nothing to do with politics. It’s about what is actually happening behind the scenes.

Please answer the question: Should FR ban all posts except those to verified documents, videos and audio?

Enough about your “thoughts” about labeling me as you seem to want to exclusively do.

Since Q has nothing to do with politics, please have him explain the 5Gbps and 15 GHz reference in the snippet below:

"Reported 5 Gbps speed in a 5G live test network. ... As far as frequency, the 5G test network used a 15 GHz frequency band, which is higher and shorter range than current 3G/4G cellular frequencies that top out at around 2.6 GHz, i.e. 2600 MHz LTE Band 7."

Thanks for your expertize.

No that’s why we have the debate of ideas here.

Let each side present their case and then have a debate over it.

I do not directly correspond to Q.

Although Q does reply occasionally to people’s questions.
Here is web site with mainly Q’s posts and some replies questions.

https://qcodefag.github.io/

Going back to 5G for a moment.

3G Operates 1 to 1000 Kilobits.

4G Operates 1 to 1000 Megabits

5G Operates 1 to 1000 Gigabits

So,

It looks like 5G ≠ 5 MHz

Good advice to not accept alleged facts on FR without some investigation.....

"5th generation mobile networks or 5th generation wireless systems, abbreviated 5G, are the proposed next telecommunications standards beyond the current 4G/IMT-Advanced standards,[1] operating in the millimeter wave bands (28, 38, and 60 GHz)."

-Wiki

Do you intend to get this obviously incorrect Wiki info corrected/updated with your info?

I want 5g to penetrate walls!
The 4g is good outside work in the parking lot in places but inside it is spotty at best. At home I have no issue with T-Mobile but other carriers depends on where I am standing and if I have tin foil wrapped around my arm....
