I think Brian is under the misapprehension that government schools exist to educate youngsters. The singular purpose of these schools is to provide a middle class job for adults.

I see the results in younger people I encounter. They can't perform unless specifically given a list of how-to instructions for a task. They can't think outside the box and figure out things on their own. They don't learn new things beyond the how-to list. Pretty much zombies without a clue unless programmed for a task. The real world is not like that. If you want to be successful, one must step outside the how-to list and try different things in order to advance to higher paying jobs.
That's why we have people screaming to hike minimum wages, people stuck in minimum wage jobs for life, rather than shifting gears to a higher-paying job.
Teach people how to strike a match to make a fire and they'll be warm for a day; teach them how to think of useful purposes of fire and they'll feed themselves for life. Unfortunately they're just learning how to burn down society.
