My guess is that the Windy City isn’t a top pick for Harvard Law School students without some previous connection to the city.

It would seem more likely for someone with his credentials to work in NYC, DC, LA, or possibly San Francisco.

I think it is significant that he ended up there. FYI, I lived and worked in Chicago for ten years.

THORP - Michael John Strzok, 96, formerly of Thorp, Clark County and Gilman, died March 18, 2002, at Lakeside Nursing and Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church with burial in St. Hedwig's Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Thorp Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary Service. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

He was born Aug. 19, 1905, in Thorp to John and Maryanne (nee Polnaszek) Strzok. He married Josephine Badzinski on Sept. 2, 1929, and she died on Nov. 1, 1997. They farmed in rural Gilman where he expanded to trucking, livestock sales and became a partner in the Mattes Livestock Sales. He was also in partnership in Gilman Farm Service.

He is survived by his six sons and five daughters, Dr. Richard (Jimmie) Strzok of Arizona, Michael (Beverly) Strzok of Indiana, Peter (Virginia Sue) Strzok of Wisconsin, Christine (Rocky) Todd of Wisconsin, Fr. James Strzok, SJ, of Kenya, Africa, David (Claire) Strzok of Wisconsin, Julie Strzok Harris of North Carolina, Maryanne Strzok of Wisconsin, Stephanie (Kim) Strzok-Scheidegger of Wisconsin, Lad (Jenny) Strzok of Wisconsin and Elizabeth Strzok of Colorado and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mark Maurice Strzok was born on December 16, 1954 and there is absolutely no mention of him in the obituary. Actually, he is the brother of Mitch Eugene Strzok, who was born on July 12, 1960 and currently lives in Waterford, WI. The brothers attended Muskego High School.

Their mother was Marlyn Jandrt, who was born on June 11, 1930 in Chippewa County and died in November 2013. Their father was Eugene Harvey Strzok who was born on Aug. 11, 1938 in Thorp and died on Nov. 11, 2012 in Janesville.

Harvey was the son of Michael Charles Strzok (1897-1974) who was the son of Franciszka and Karol Strzok (1861-1945), who was probably the brother of Michael John Strzok's grandfather John (1860-1911), both Polish immigrants.

Like I said, I don't know where Jim Strzok was when Obama was in Kenya. That's up for people who want to believe the story to prove.

Strzok spent a lot of time in Tanzania, also Uganda, also Kenya. Kenya is almost as big as Texas and Tanzania is bigger, and getting around there isn't as easy as it is here.

My guess is that the Windy City isn’t a top pick for Harvard Law School students without some previous connection to the city.

For an African-American who wants to break into politics Chicago and Atlanta are obvious choices. You certainly don't go to Portland or Seattle or Phoenix.

Chicago and Atlanta aren't as hopelessly run down as many other big cities, and Blacks have a clearer shot at the political prizes than they do in NY, LA or SF, where other groups have dibs on offices.

And the chances of going statewide are much better in Illinois than in Georgia. Not for nothing were the first post-Reconstruction Black Congressmen from Chicago (as well as the first African-American Democratic senator - Carol Moseley Braun).

Plus, if you're looking for a career in Democratic politics and you get a summer job offer from the law firm where Adlai Stevenson's old law partner and Kennedy's FCC head (Newton Minow) works, you take the job.

I might agree with that. Obama pursued Chicago because he was already interested in going into politics.

I am also interested in the reports that Alwaleed Bin Talal may have underwritten the cost of his some of his education at the suggestion of Khalid al-Mansour. If that is the case, then some one other than just Obama may have had an interest in seeing him installed in Chicago.
