Durbin just flat-out rejected Trump’s proposal, so I don’t think you need to worry. As to the long game - it took decades for the 1965 Immigration bill to finally work well for the Dems, so I don’t think they’re ready to reset the clock and have to wait another 20 years for results. They have a system that is working great for them (with or without the DACA brats) and they won’t let go of it, even for the DACA brats.
Correct, however this is far from being done-and-dusted. Again, dems play the long-game well just by the sheer amount of illegals that arrived/Hispanics demographic that vote democrat since 1986. The anchor is monetary welfare from various means Fed/State. That is where the Center of Gravity lies with all of this. Destroy that, you win. Unfortunately too many citizens and interests groups want that gravy train to keep rolling. Hence, the dems key to power regardless of what “conditions” they promote and concessions they fail to yield to.
