The White House will announce its own bill which codifies DACA into law and fulfills its stated immigration priorities next Monday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced at Wednesdays White House briefing.
This framework will fulfill the four agreed-upon pillars: securing the border and closing legal loopholes; ending extended-family chain migration; cancelling the visa lottery, and providing a permanent solution on DACA, Sanders statement said.
The press secretary gave scant information to reporters on what the permanent fix for the Obama-era protections for illegal immigrants will entail. Options include merely shielding these illegal immigrants from deportation and allowing them have work permits, grant them temporary protected status, or offer them a pathway to citizenship.
Trump has maintained his four immigration priorities throughout negotiations with democratic lawmakers over DACA. Democratic lawmakers, however, have been recalcitrant to appropriate the approximately $20 billion the White House has requested for a wall along the US-Mexico border.

The liberals will criticize whatever Trump has come up with. Can’t wait to see Chuckie Schumer cry again.
No amnesties! No citizenship for illegals and their spawn!
The Rats are going to come unhinged with those for items, Chuckie Schumer will have a stroke.
Go for it!
“YES !!!”
Looks like permanent end to chain migration, visa lottery etc but the DACA...I cant read anything explicit about ending the stupid thing in the article.
THIS senate will do Trump no favors, but it sure will be a big reveal of 1) exactly who the Republicans are who are UniPartyDemocrats, and 2) that McConnell will not change the 60 vote rule that saves the country and enacts the Trump agenda.
Then, of course, the bill will fail.
SCOTUS already agreed to expedite review of DACA - it will be dead in a few weeks anyway ...
They should end birthright citizenship, too.
The bill will fail, DACA will expire, DREAMers will be deported.
Sounds like a win-win!
At some point in time, the war has got to end. Joe Manchin will probably go along with the Trump bill ...
In the old days, a Senator would say, "This bill doesn't do all that I want, but I'm going to vote for it to allow DACA kids to stay in the US ...."
Let's hope that happens this time ...
Oh, those poor DREAMers! LOL
Wish that was true but he is going to grant them a path to citizenship.
I'll accept at the most permanent residency only for the children of illegals - but all of Trump's priorities must be funded and enacted into law before that takes place.
Long and winding road... |
Anyone with a brain realizes Trump has the potential to be the best pres ever. Keep your fingers crossed.
He maybe Regan on steroids. Will see. So far, very pleasantly surprised.
Reagan got snookered. I doubt Trump will repeat that mistake.
So does the Goodlatte Bill - go back to their country and apply under current law. I can live with that ...
The American People are way ahead of the Congress on this issue, and they have their heads in the right place. There is an 80%+ consensus on ending chain migration, ending the lottery, building the wall, and severely restricting legal immigration.
In exchange for that, there will be some amnesty for DACA immigrants—another issue for which there is broad consensus with the American People.
The purists aren't going to be permitted to make the perfect the enemy of the good. They're just going to have to accept the fact that there will be some DACA amnesty, although the numbers I've seen proposed simply aren't very big.
Deplorables—and their President—are going to get almost everything they want on immigration. That's how governing works in a representative Republic when one party doesn't have a supermajority. On an issue as delicate as immigration, there are always going to be some compromises. I, for one, am not tired of all the winning...
