“Should have given the existing blacks full citizenship”
Those “existing blacks” were guest workers from neighboring countries, not aborigines with an ancestral claim to the land.
The white South Africans knew what would happen if these “people” were given a voice in government. They knew, while we have forgotten, that the slave does not dream of freedom—he dreams of becoming a master.
Just try to fight clear of the fake news and compare South Africa then and now. Then put together an argument that handing the country to these guest workers was a good thing to do.
Ah, the old discredited “South Africa was barren!” red herring.
Guest workers or natives, still should have integrated them and enacted strict immigration quotas.
“Those existing blacks were guest workers from neighboring countries, not aborigines with an ancestral claim to the land.”
What % were?
10? 20?
It certainly wasn’t 50,60,70 or some fantasy number where you would somehow get a majority of S. Africa consisting of only whites.
You know damn well that all of these people were not “guest workers”. The S. African whites didnt make any distinction between those that weren’t and those that supposedly were anyway.
They were ALL treated as 2nd class people.
