California Attorney General Xavier Becerra warned employers Thursday of legal repercussions if they assist federal immigration officials in an impending crackdown in the sanctuary state, The Sacramento Bee reported.
Under a new state law the Immigration Worker Protection Act employers and businesses could face fines of up to $10,000 if they provide employee information to U.S. Immigration Customs, Becerra said.
If employers start giving up information about their employees or access to their employees in ways that contradict our new California laws, they subject themselves to actions by my office. We will prosecute those who violate the law, he said at a news conference.
The law prevents workers of any immigration status from being detained at workplaces. Among other stipulations, federal officials must obtain a warrant before searching a worksite and employers are required to notify their workers before a federal audit of employee records.
Becerra said the Department of Justice and the Labor Commissions office which hold exclusive authority over enforcement will give guidance to public and private employers on their responsibilities under the new law.
The warning comes amid rumors of mass sweeps that will target illegal immigrants in Northern California. Under Californias sanctuary laws, local police are restricted from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.
Upon hearing the rumors, local jurisdictions in Northern California said they hadnt been notified by federal officials of any impending raids.
ICEs acting director, Thomas Homan told Fox News earlier this month, If the politicians in California dont want to protect their communities, then ICE will.
“Conflict of Laws” would seem to apply here.
A 10,000 dollar fine if you’re caught assisting duly costituted authority in enforcing the law. This is jumping the shark. It also happens to be sedition. This HAS to be addressed. If Trump doesn’t then a Militia should. Period. As it stands at this moment the fed Gov is losing control.
>
Trump could be quite brutal here if he wished. Hes only got so much political capital however, and may have to escalate strategically.
>
Sorry, but talk about co-opting the Leftists drivel!
“Political capital”? It’s the Presidency, not ‘Dancing With the Stars’. The People don’t get to call it in, but every 4 yrs. He’s got a JOB to do: adhere and ENFORCE the F* L-A-W.
“Escalate strategically”? Ahh, for political posturing, not as ‘effective and legal governance’.
Nope, it only goes to show the dichotomy of govt: One sets of laws for the elected/elite....another, more draconian and brutal, for the rest.
>
Having mass uprisings in Leftyland will risk the mushy middle. It could also risk the USSC swing votes putting a finger to the wind.
>
And what would the mushy middle *DO*? What could SCOTUS do? Trump need only pull a Jackson on ‘em...let THEM enforce their edicts
Hell, I for one, would LOVE to see a true Constitutional crisis. Might wake a few out of their stupification.
My $.02, this is why the (R)N(C) loses, battle after battle. Poo-poo’d and tsk-tsk’d until they wake up wondering how the shackles happened upon their appendages.
I know I vote for some ‘finger-in-the-wind’.
I think you’re quite right. Calif authority is banking on forcing Trump to use force in Calif and the people rising up aginst the Feds.
If I were the AG, there would have been Federal Agents there Arresting him on National TV, and the next glimpse of this sorry excuse for a human would be in an Orange Jumpsuit and Shackles.
Dear California Employers:
You are now between a proverbial rock and a hard place.
Refuse to comply with Federal immigration laws and the Feds will prosecute you.
Comply with them and California will prosecute you.
The obvious answer is: employers must LEAVE CALIFORNIA!
Definitely going to Supreme Court. A state has no say over immigration laws. Ca law is void on its face.

This matter will become known as Little Rock II. Orval Faubus learned this lesson, now a new batch of liberals need the same Federal 2X4 across their brow.
This insane law is all sizzle and no steak. California is bluffing and they will lose the minute President Trump plays his hole card. The Dems in CA are propelling their state toward s—holeism at supersonic speed. Several US cities have earned the label s—tholes. CA is working tirelessly to be the first state to win the designation.
I guess Califonia’s next step will be to fire on Fort Sumter...
Don't they essentially violate the Supremacy Clause, which makes federal law superior to state law?
Not that Moonbeam, his AG Dos Equis, and the rest of La Raza Brigade of democrats give a damn about the Constitution, American Citizens and actual legal residents of the State of California.
Keep pushing ***holes
