Republican Rep. Mia Love deplored President Donald Trump for reportedly criticizing immigrants coming to the United States from what he called "shithole countries."
"I can't defend the indefensible. You have to understand that there are countries that struggle out there. But their people, their people are good people and they're part of us. We're Americans," Love, who represents Utah and is the first Haitian-American elected to Congress, said on CNN's "State of the Union."
Referring to immigrants from African countries, Trump asked lawmakers during an Oval Office meeting on immigration reform, "Why do we want all these people from 'shithole countries' coming here?" a source briefed on the meeting told CNN.
The President has denied making the comment.
"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!" Trump tweeted on Friday.
Love, whose parents immigrated from Haiti, told "State of the Union" that she thinks the President's comments were racist.
"I think they were, yes. I think they were unfortunate. I don't know if they were taken -- I wasn't in the room. I know the comments were made. I don't know in which context they were made," she said. "I'm looking forward to finding out what happened, but more importantly, I'm looking forward to fixing the problem."

What’s the likely hood she will be around after the next election? She is a prime candidate for a primary challenger
I hope she has a job lined up because she’s DONE stick a fork in her
The question is did she change once in office with offers she could not refuse or was she a chameleon from the git go.
Wheel-of-Fortune gives away exotic trips everyday.
Never once have I seen one given for Haiti or Africa.
I just tweeted Rep. Love. So she and her parents are from Haiti, if it isn’t so bad why is she here? Better yet I asked her why the Dominican Republic was so successful and Haiti wasn’t since they share the same Island.
Haiti now and for decades has been a 3rd world Hell Hole and I doubt it will ever change unless those living there demand it. When Clinton was in office he put in that idiot Jean-Bertrand Aristide who ended up being as corrupt was the Papa Doc and Baby Doc.
My is suggestion is if Rep. Love hates what the Presisdent said then she should resign and move back to Haiti, run for office and save it. Quit griping and complaining and go back and make a difference. My money is on the fact she won’t. She’s a Hypocrite.
Can’t stand this sight of this worthless *itch.
Could be. So?
I watched the video clip. Congresswoman Love was not attacking the President. Her tone was kind, not combative. She said she didn't know what really happened in that meeting and that she was interested in finding out so we could deal with the problem.
Jake Tapper, the CNN "journalist" is the one we should be going after. Mia Love is a conservative Republican, who is being used by CNN and other liberal **holes to promote their agenda.
For Republican Rep. Mia Love to claim the report is true is racist of her.
“and they’re part of us.”. No the f***k they’re not. Goes to show where this twits allegiences are.
Well you think Jews are schemers, so maybe you are a racist.
Anybody remember SNL?
Normally I wear protection, but then I thought, “When am I gonna make it back to Haiti?”
Mia Love is now the star poster (black) girl for the Mormon Church. She’s not going anywhere, unfortunately.
Sorry Mia...He’s right!!!!
Even had Trump said it, it was not racist. “Sxxt hole countries” refers to the cultural and economic conditions in a country, not race.
Mormons want as many people in this country as possible, so it’s easier for them to convert them.
Yeah, it’s very unfortunate.
It wasn’t a “comment” it was a question: Why do we need to take in so many people from s- hole countries?
The question is legitimate and deserves an answer.
For one thing Haiti is probably the most shithole country in the world, and anyone that doesn’t like it can whine whatever. As far as Mia Love is concerned she has proven herself to be a phoney.
Lower income people who are cut off from their family and support network are much easier to seduce than those who are not. They are pretty much the ideal target for Mormons.
