Switzerland: 8.4 million
Hardly a comparison as countries with the US with 323 million population.

She talked about how her family had worked hard, scrapped and saved, made their way across the fjords and across the ocean, and all the way to the US - where they then made their way to ‘a place just as f***ing miserable as where they came from’...
Yes but you're taxed up the wazoo. Not just income tax but sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco. And VAT on your auto and other purchases. Yes great cradle-to-grave social services. But also that six months of winter. That dour Scandinavian outlook. And last but not least, lutefisk!

Lots of Scandinavians in Wisconsin / Minnesota / The Dakotas. The land was cheap - practically free - and they were great farmers. And a climate they were accustomed to.

Then the Finns assisted Russians in destroying the Swedish Empire. By 19th century Sweden was mostly neutered and Norway declared independence in 1814, got a Constitution. It wasn’t actually recognized until earlier 1900s but it was practically independent since that time.

Yep, taxes and tariffs are a massive downside but all in all most of them like it better.
Actually the most unattractive of all in US for people from better off European countries are crime and healthcare. They are so used to ‘free’ doctors that the idea to pay for medicine makes them sick by itself.
