On one page from the book you have two images, one is of the Kenyan and Ruth and two boys. One boy is standing, he's about five or so years old. The other child Ruth is holding, looks to be about a year of so of age. Here's that image from another source:
If the standing boy was born early in 1961, and Mark was born in 1965, what you are looking at is the dark boy seen sitting next to zero in the two little boys image.
The other photo from the same page of the book, shows that same dark boy standing next to Mrs Baker who is holding her grandson, Mark. There's a very good reason why the images in that book are tinted. I'll let you guess why.
You just haven't accepted the possibility...that the children have been deliberately misidentified.
If you still don't follow, I give up...and that fellow with the Kenyan you keep identifying as Malik, isn't Malik. It's the dark boy, all grown up.
