Not all prostate cancers are slow growing. Some are extremely aggressive.
For all you men, get your PSA and a DRE every year. It could save your life.
Your insurance company doesnt care about your life. If you have a 25% increase in your PSA, get a biopsy no matter what your insurance company or doctor says.
My insurance company is Medicare. I get a blood panel and checkup every six months. So far, so good.
” If you have a 25% increase in your PSA, get a biopsy no matter what your insurance company or doctor says.”
Very true, but you should also understand that the 4.0 PSA number isn’t really a good measure. Someone who has a 2.0 PSA at 40 should have a biopsy, but someone at 75 can reasonably expect a 5.0 PSA to be normal. What doctors really watch is the rate of change of PSA over a short period of time. Also, always have the DRE after the blood draw. A DRE irritates the prostate and with that irritation, your PSA can go up. Same deal with sex, don’t have it the night before you get the blood test.
