Sessions made ‘cataclysmic mistake’ with marijuana policy change, says ex-Trump adviser Roger Stone
The Washington Times ^ | January 6, 2018 | Andrew Blake

Attorney General Jeff Sessions made a “cataclysmic mistake” by rescinding Obama-era federal marijuana policies, according to Roger Stone, President Trump’s former campaign adviser.

Mr. Stone, 65, formed a bipartisan, pro-marijuana lobbying group earlier this year, the United States Cannabis Coalition, “dedicated to influencing federal level decision makers, including the president, so they honor state’s rights and state mandated marijuana laws as well as reform our antiquated and failed federal drug laws,” according to its website.

Mr. Stone, the president’s campaign adviser through August 2015, criticized the attorney general’s recent decision to roll back marijuana protections during a luncheon Friday at the Tiger Bay Club of Central Florida, the Orlando Sentinel reported afterwards.

The Department of Justice has outlawed marijuana for decades, but the Obama administration put in place policies that allowed dozens of states to legalize the plant without prompting federal interference. Mr. Sessions nullified those policies on Thursday, however, casting uncertainty over the future of existing medical and recreational marijuana programs already in place across the country.

There is a reason an amendment was needed to prohibit alcohol.

Not needed just used. Many States already had prohibition and Blue laws. Oklahoma was dry until early 60s.

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Article ten is Null and Void for all practical purposes and has been since before the ink was dry on the Constitution. Even worse the Courts have upheld all sorts of violations and like it or not that unfortunately is Constitutional until it isn't.

Do you not support the Tenth Amendment?

Do you support California Sanctuary State status?

You are correct and thanks for posting. Legitimate law can only be derived from constitutional authority.

Believe it or not you can be put in jail whether a law is constitutional or not as long as a law is on the books it is enforceable. The case may find its way to the Supremes but likely after you have already died or been shanked.

When I got to a legally operating dispensary here in the state of Florida I see mostly people over 50—many of them with canes, crutches & wheelchairs waiting to buy their medicine.

Most old people get their prescriptions by mail now because it is cheaper.

What was your point?

Not for medical marijuana. Patients here in Florida have to go get their meds or pay to have it delivered.

Ken H-’Do you not support the Tenth Amendment?’

itsahoot-”Do you support California Sanctuary State status?”

Fallacy. California’s Sanctuary State BS is a direct violation of the Constitution. Only Fedzilla can set immigration law. Article I, Section 8, clause 4 of the Constitution entrusts the federal legislative branch with the power to “establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization.”

The 10th Amendment does not grant states the right to design their own immigration laws.

The 10th Amendment clearly says: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

There are no powers designated in the Constitution granting the federal gov’t to prohibit cannabis within any state. Even the alcohol prohibitionists dared to follow the Constitution but not the cannabis prohibitionists.

I care especially when it doesn't stay in the bedroom and it certainly hasn't.

Worst drug on our streets because it is legal. Destroyed more lives than Meth.

The 10th Amendment clearly says:

The 10th will never have any real effect until we use the third box, even then you likely will find that the Fed does not easily surrender power to the States else we would not of had a Civil War.

Missed that then thought maybe that is what you meant after I posted. I didn't know Florida had Medical Marijuana, hard to keep up. I think it was Virginia that said if you want pot give up you gun or no pot.

Getting medical pot opens up whole new worlds of government interference in our lives, if you really want change just make it legal to grow your own but not for resale. I think Oregon lets you grow 4 plants for your own use.

I am not now nor have I ever been in favor of anything that stones the population into manageable morons. That includes Whisky which I used to consume in copious amounts, even made my own in the Cookson Hills in the 50s. I haven't drank anything more than a sociable drink in over 40 years, life is better for it.

“Do you support California Sanctuary State status?”

No. Fedgov is delegated power over immigration and borders by Article I, Sec 8. Sanctuary states are in violation of those provisions.

OTOH, fedgov has no such authority to regulate intrastate mj commerce, unless you believe a living, breathing Constitution. Then you’d be fine with bloated, out of control fedgov in charge of everything.

Valid points. However, since Trump’s public position is to leave it up to the states, this may be one of those times they observe it.

Don’t know why you’d post this... Specifically don’t know why you’d post this to me...

I’m aware that I can be put in jail for no reason at all.

The US Constitution draws a very clear line of demarcation across which the federal government may not go. Sure, they cross it all the time. Sure, the Supreme Court has “affirmed” the FedGov’s ability to cross that line whenever they feel like it...

That’s when Patriots resist, not sit around explaining to one another that the cow’s already gone and there’s no use mentioning the barn door anymore.

unless you believe a living, breathing Constitution.

However if he Supremes say something is constitutional then it is. Congress however can pass legislation the is not subject to constitutional review and they have but no lately. Well except for that migit majority leader that retired a few years back, had some legislation passed that exempted some of his property from some EPA rules.

“However if he Supremes say something is constitutional then it is.”

So you roll over. Why not at least give voice to the original meaning of the Constitution instead of counciling capitulation?
