California offers some of the broadest protections and rights to undocumented immigrants in the country, and the California Values Act, which went into effect Jan. 1, makes those protections even stronger.
Indeed, the law also known as SB 54, or the sanctuary state law will have a significant impact, particularly for certain people. It will also eventually shed light on the way local law enforcement interacts with federal agencies, like Border Patrol, the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
But particularly in San Diego County, where there are high concentrations of federal law enforcement and numerous joint local and federal operations and task forces intended to tackle border-related crimes, its still unclear just how far the new protections extend.
For example, the Escondido Police Department was awarded a $250,000 federal grant in December to hire new officers and the federal government made clear that cooperation in immigration enforcement was a big driver in who was chosen, reported the Union-Tribune.
Sheriff Bill Gore said all the politics around SB 54 created some internal conflict for him. On one hand, if the 200,000 to 300,000 undocumented immigrants estimated to live within the departments jurisdiction are scared to come to law enforcement to report crimes or be witnesses, that could create a huge public safety issue.
On the other hand, he said, There are people who are in the county illegally who do bad things, who smuggle drugs or commit violent crimes, and I dont want the politics of what is going on to get in the way of public safety.

Wait. They are still “Undocumented Immigrants”?
Last night, on the local news, I heard they were “Undocumented People”.....
Illegals elevated above Citizens and the Law
Aren’t Sanctuary cities, state condoning Human Trafficking?
Good luck with that, Sheriff.
Trump ought to roll tanks on Sacramento for this insurrection, aiding and abetting an invasion of these United States.
On the other hand, if the illegal children of these illegal invaders (making up 25% of the school population!) were not demanding that the schools teach in 40 (or more!) different languages and raising class sizes from 24 (legal) to 32 (actual), the schools could do a better job of teaching real Americans. On the other hand, if this 20% of the San Diego population were not overloading the welfare roles, the health care system, and the rest of the region's social services, perhaps the liberal do-gooders could actually do some good for those Americans who are in need.
Deport them all. No exceptions.
How about zero $ returned to california from the federal government.
If california wants to give the rest of the country the big middle finger, and wants to cozy up to mexico, then no support from the rest of the US for you.
Gotta problem with that?
Go down to mexico city and ask them for money.
This sedition and an attempt to overthrow the government of the United States and Trump should declare a national emergency and cut California off from ALL federal funds and not allow interstate commerse. Anyone in California 30 days from now will require a VISA to enter the remaining United States.
By President Trump should direct that no government agency or organization, shall conduct new travel or business in California. This is what Obama did to Las Vegas years ago, and fully within his power as president. There is no law that says that the government must do business in certain states, all meetings in certain states, etc.
In other words, there was little or no enforcement prior to Jan 1 either.
That’s right, I had forgotten about that.
We as citizens, as business owners, as shoppers, we should boycott all commerce to and from California. Can we do that? Personally, I dont see a big challenge to this. It would mean canceling work opportunities in California, which have some impact. My quandary is regarding how bold of a statement that I want to make. Do I just cancel those things in California and not say anything, or should I put a statement on my website, stating that we do not do business in California and why? Your thoughts?
Sherriff Bill Gore is a political hack. He was also the FBI agent in charge at Ruby Ridge. That guy sucks!
Congress and the President can declare California and other sanctuary states as being in rebellion over both illegal aliens and the legalization of marijuana.
Then their state and local governments can then be taken over by Federal authorities and the order of law restored.
This would also remove their delegations from Congress and prevent these states from holding elections or voting in national elections at least until they are readmitted to the Union.
Cali just put out a welcome mat and open invitation for mojados-and I hope their fed funds get cut by every dime legally possible by pres Trump. I can see one possible positive result to gov Moonbeam’s idiocy, though-with increased vigilance by border patrol and other law enforcement in the other border states, more illegals will cross the border into Cali instead of somewhere else-that should produce plenty of well deserved problems for the gov and his lunatic supporters......
Undocumented cash withdrawal
Can't have it both ways.
