Sorry, I disagree. Carter’s abandonment of the Shah may have enabled it in the end but any Islamic action will always be a top-down affair. Populism doesn’t exist in a theocracy.
I still believe it was populism. I remember when Khomeni returned. The crowds went wild! When the unsmiling man reached out and touched one of them in the crowd, the touched persons would go into fits of ecstasy.
The takeover of the US Embassy was done by these same young people.
When the old man died the people went into such a fit of mourning that they pulled his body off the bier and the cameras stopped as his dead body fell to the ground.
Again I figured after 20-30 years of mullah misrule they would be wanting something they once had, LIBERTY.
Before it’s all over we’ll hear the disaffected chanting Trump! Trump! Trump! in Tehran.
Liberals/socialists have always sided with the enemies of the United States.
Be it the Russians, Chinese, North Vietnamese, Cambodians, any mideast dictator etc. Always there to undermine freedom.
“The crowds went wild!”
I bet you are fooled by “the crowds” in North Korea too.
And what about the Soros created, bankrolled and transported “crowds” at his antifa, “immigration” and BLM rallies.
Well...
If you take a look at history, the Left loved Lenin, Stalin, Trotsky, Mussolini, and Hitler. They love the Pali Arabs and the Muzzies.
It is hard to call the Left morally bankrupt because they never had any morals in the first place.
No surprise.
The left always sides with tyranny.
