I have said before, his sketchy past, the obvious forged documents with the classic date errors (SS Registration card, birth certificate number higher than twins born the day after him) seems to me (IMHO) evidence of false identity, perhaps identity thief of even a dead infant.
I submit Mommy Stanley Ann was well up to the task and could have been aided by Granny. A bit of speculation, sure, but there’s some funny stuff - like no pictures with “Daddy” except only at the airport and years later.
