It sounds like the guy was in Vegas for a 3-gun shoot competition, rifle, pistol and shotgun. Participants bring their own guns and ammo. The guy got drunk-big deal.

The more I read this, the more I think the cops either haven't told the full story or are out of line, over-reacting, and playing to the media to sow fear.

Guy in town, checked into hotel with three guns and some ammo--maybe for gun show or 3-gun competition.

• Rifle, pistol, shotgun, related ammo. Pretty tame.
• Guns and ammo in room, not on him.
• Guy gets drunk in same hotel, asked to leave.
• Police help him collect his stuff to escort him out
• Seeing guns in room, police freak out
• Seize guns, impound car (why?), and arrest the guy (on trespass).
• Nothing saying guy illegally had guns
• No indication of threat
• No connection between drunk conduct and guns, he did not have them with him
• Regarding gun possession, seems like the guy did the right thing, left the guns in room when he went out drinking
• Guy needs to account for his drinking behavior
• Police and media need to account for their overreaction and hysteria. Though, give credit to them for not shooting the guy when they took him to the room and saw the guns.
