HOUSTON - A man has been arrested on multiple charges after police located a small arsenal of guns on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency on Louisiana Street downtown, Houston police said.
Police at the hotel called for backup around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after they attempted to arrest the man for being intoxicated and trespassing. When help arrived, police noticed ammunition laying around the man's hotel room, Lt. Gordon Macintosh with Houston police said.
The man was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing. When investigators looked into his room further, they located an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun and lots of ammunition, Macintosh said.
The Hyatt is preparing its own New Years Eve celebration at the hotel with a 50,000 balloon drop at the stroke of midnight, its website said.

If that room is an arsenal, I hate to think of what they would call my office.Or the trunk of my car when I was recently traveling to a visit relatives in the country.

If he was charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm, does this mean hes an ex-con, or is there some law restricting firearms in the hotel, or what?
Most hilton hotels have 30.06 and .07 posted. In a dark nook of the doorway, but they still do. So that would likely apply to the pistol, but not the longguns (assuming he has a CHL). However, I'm not sure if there's something in penal code that treats a hotel room like your house or vehicle - places anyone can carry since it's viewed as an extension of your home, instead of a regular business that's open to the public.

Unlicensed carry in a bar is illegal in Texas, but that would suggest that he 1) didn't have a CCP, and 2) there was one on him rather than in his room. Neither of which is mentioned.
Also, it sounds like he was at the hotel bar, not an actual bar. So even if there was a 51% sign posted, it's an incorrect posting and has no force of law. The only way a business can make a small part of it a 51% zone is by making it completely separate from the main, non-alcohol business.
Otherwise, the blue alcohol sign does prohibit any weapons in any establishment that serves alcohol.

You think hed let the hotel know that he had guns in his room.
Why would you do that?

Why would you do that?

Actually what I’d do is asked if they had a secure place I could leave them.
And then go from there.

It may depend on which establishment. It appears that Shula’s may be under separate ownership, but the lobby bar appears to be part of the hotel, as does the revolving restaurant on top.
