Compare and contrast with the protests that brought down The Shah.

What’s the difference?

Who is the leader of these protests? They had Khomeini, who is the “Khomeini” of this revolution? You’d better have one if you want it to succeed.

Would really be strange if the DPRK had a similar event.

Obama refused to interfere in Iran before when the good people were rioting. Now that President Trump is in charge let’s see what happens. Let us not forget that a lot is going on in the Middle East with big changes in Saudi Arabia for openers. 2018 could be an interesting year at home and abroad.

Last time they tried it Obama threw them all under the bus. This time Trump would have their backs.

“The regime is doomed.”

We’ve heard that before. Once the bloodlust of the basijis fires up, this insurrection - assuming no direct outside help is forthcoming - will be put down.

How long ago was it that the Iranians warned Trump that they would bring the US to it’s knees?

Iran has a GDP about the same as Alabama.

The Iran population is 81.5 million.

The Alabama population is 4.8 million.

The 1979 revolution was utopian as well as Islamic, promising as it did the freedom from the "oppression" under the Shahs and a new society based on fundamentalist religious precepts. What happened was oppression on a new scale, less freedom than before, and a constant drain on the population and the economy through the militant export of Islamic revolution. Utopia turned out, as it always does, to be a fictitious manipulative illusion.

As nearly everyone who has tried it has learned to their regret, exporting revolution is ruinously expensive and supporting it highly corrosive to the host society. It is also a tiger that is very difficult to dismount once ridden.

Iran could be what its current government is pretending to be: a wealthy, powerful nation that is a beacon for the entire Middle East. But that would require a drastic change in priorities - refineries instead of secret nuclear facilities that promise only waste, cultural expression on the order of India instead of government censorship and secret police. That change in priorities is difficult to envision without a change in government.

The Star makes a laughable defense of the Bassiji and the IRG as unbeatable on the field of battle. I might remind them that so was Saddam not so very long ago. That, recall, was the 6th largest army in the world facing the 26th largest and getting thoroughly crushed. Police states always look tougher than they are.

I remember how our media elites in decades past were pushing articles critical against the Shah and also against Saudi Arabia, pushing the line that the current regimes were so corrupt and why was America backing the People in power. I remember thinking, who do they want to replace them with and will they be worse?

Two years from now, the ayatollahs and mullahs ruling Persia will be toast. And I will guess it’s Trump’s fault.
