not understanding the problem here. This sounds like the Phalanx system the US Navy has used for decades.

Our Harpoons are no match for these latest gen ones whatsoever. One thing we’ve needed since the 80s is a supersonic (today maybe hypersonic) anti-ship missile.

It’s a dual system (gun and missile).

This sounds like the Phalanx system the US Navy has used for decades.

May sound like it, but if it works as advertised, is far more capable.

CIWS has always has a range/clutter problem. The 30mm Russian gun has better range. The Dutch Goalkeeper CIWS has always been superior with the dual band seeker to avoid multipath confusion.

The integrated missiles are like addng the RIM-116 to CIWS. I think the army toyed with something like that with the Stinger.

The use of optical/IR targeting also is a big jump over the CIWS.
