Funny how calculus hasn’t changed in hundreds of years

This stupid effort to make kids learn the new new new math is insane.
Other countries don’t engage in this teacher union driven crap

They need to know how to do arithmetic, algebra,geometry... and if they are real advanced trig

Realistically, though, there is no real application for Calculus other than Physics - and today we have computers to do the work. Yes, a basic understanding should be required, but is teaching differential equations a good use of tuition dollars? Remember, we should be looking at college - particularly in STEM - for the ROI.

If you want learning for learning’s sake go study sociology and then go work at Starbucks and default on your student loans.

Partner, you hit a homerun on your statement.

I was telling my wife that these formulas in Calculus are the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

You do not need new methods on how to teach. All you need is competent teachers that know Mathematics and know how to teach these young men and young women on how to think in these terms.

Funny, that’s all the math I got in high school (with a little solid geometry thrown in) .......... SIXTY YEARS AGO.

Is this integral to the argument? Or are you just trying to diverge from the real discussion? Because sometimes it is hard to differentiate.

There are more smart math people than there are math jobs. A lot of the smart math people don’t want to teach math because they don’t want to deal with the garbage that goes on in schools, so they find other endeavors.
