Former House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz, Saturday called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to be removed from office, saying that may be a cure for the "deep systemic problems" in the Department of Justice.
"It pains me to say this a little bit [but] I don't think the attorney general is up to the job he's doing," Chaffetz, now a contributor for Fox News, told the "Fox and Friends Saturday" program.
Sessions "had to remove himself from everything" involving President Donald Trump and that led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as special investigator in the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, said Chaffetz.
He also criticized the attorney general for not taking on a more active role in digging up information about several controversial figures at the DOJ, including Agent Peter Strzok, who was removed from the investigation after a series of anti-Trump text messages between him and a fellow agent were discovered.
Chaffetz said that Sessions also had told him that he would not prosecute Bryan Pagliano, Hillary Clinton's former chief tech staffer, who had refused a Congressional subpoena to testify about the 2016 Democratic nominee's use of a private email server.
Sessions had also refused to make documents on the Fast and Furious scandal public following the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Chaffetz said.

Chaffetz can eat a buffet of dicks. Sessions is giving Mueller enough rope to hang himself with.
Sessions is not up to the task.
Does not want to get his hands dirty.
And he has caused great harm to Trump, Trumps agenda and Flynn
by his total recusal at AG.
Bob. Please take your pills. U r having delusions.
Sessions has to wake up first.
Well said H.A.
Anyone hired to run a company who found his company (the DOJ) this f’d up and did nothing to rectify the problem would be fired. This is the mystery of Trump, why he hasn’t Sessions, that I cannot understand.
Sessions was blackmail bait from the get-go.
Dilly Dilly
Former prosecutor Trey Gowdy....
I think the his assignment was to cozy up to Candidate Trump and gain his confidence, so much so that Session could ask for the AG and out of gratitude Trump would appoint Sessions which he did.
It makes no sense for him to refuse to even consider prosecuting Hillary otherwise.
I have to admit I was completely fooled by Sessions. I thought he was one of the good guys.
This has come full circle now, Sessions can un recuse himself anytime now or not now.lol... very smart..
Republicans such as Mitch McConnell and Graham have told Trump that they will NOT confirm any other AG appointment.
Why is Rudy too old? He’s 73 and seems to be in good health.
What about Trey Gowdy?
Trey Gowdy? Good gosh.
Gowdy only works when the lights and camera’s are on.
Do you have a link documenting your assertion that Someone is filing a butt ton of sealed federal indictments across the country
Sessions suffers from “I Want everyone to like me” syndrome. He’s a meek little dork and we need a Belgian Malinois apprehension dog.
Sessions was a very bad choice for AG, I’m sure President Trump is kicking his own @ss over Sessions.
If I were Trump and the senate would not confirm a new AG I would fire the “acting” AG if he didn’t clean this rat’s nest up. I would fire the next “acting” AG in two weeks if he didn’t do the job, etc., etc. Eventually you would get to a person who is not a swamp dwelling deep state felon. With the blatant evidence of corruption growing every day the status quo is not the answer.
He was a very good prosecutor before he became a politician. When all you get is 5 minutes at a time during a hearing, what else can you do? I’m just as frustrated with Gowdy, but it seems these oversight committees don’t have any real power to prosecute, subpoena, arrest etc.
Lots of takes (mostly neg) on Sessions here. They may be right. I can’t tell. It’s obvious that piling on him is the conventional and popular thing to do.
If the negative takes are right, Trump wants it that way, for some reason. What that says I don’t know either, though he has surprised me on the upside with regularity for a year.
So, I’ll just wait. None of this is my job anyway, I just observe and react as required. That’s been easy for a year.
I don’t think it was a mistake...It was intensional.
