Why? Why close the lid? No reason. If you must Police the facility then follow behind us and set the seat however you like it.

I saw a notice in a business rest room that said close the lid, then flush. Apparently this prevents some nasty back wash from going airborne during the very last part of the flush when the water comes back up.

So I get to chastize her for not closing it totally and within a day the complaints stop because she’ll never close the lid.

Why close the toilet lid? Basic hygiene to avoid the toilet spray (droplets and aerosolized) that get all over the bathroom.

Of course, other than perhaps the gross factor - I'm not sure how dangerous it is brushing your teeth with remnants of fecal matter on it. So many people leave the lid open yet the hospitals aren't full of people with Hepatitis A.
