Democrats should go after Ted Cruz.
"The Week" ^ | 12.14.2017 | Ryan Cooper

Democrats' shocking victory in the Alabama Senate special election undoubtedly has raised their potential list of seats they might win. If they can win in the Deep South, they can win anywhere.

High on the list of reach targets is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who is up for re-election in 2018. Hillary Clinton did quite well in Texas, only losing by 9 points (better than she did in Iowa) — as compared to nearly 28 points in Alabama. What's more, Democrats have a solid candidate in the form of Rep. Beto O'Rourke from El Paso.

A) the more they use it, the less believable it’ll be
B) Roy did himself in with his horrible, half-assed denial

“What would you say if I came around looking to date your 14 year old daughter? Why are you insisting that we defend the indefensible?”

There is no evidence that Moore, in his thirties, dated a 14 year old. That was part of the accusations which included claims of assault. But the evidence I’ve seen shows that the accusers are all liars.

Moore did not deny dating teenagers, but did deny doing anything criminal. If he dated girls who were above the legal age of consent at the time, he had parental permission, AND (and this is the most important part) he did not engage in sexual activity with any of them, then it does not fall into the category of indefensible.

“You know what I’d say if someone leveled these charges at me and I was innocent? ‘These women are outright liars, and I will take a polygraph and demand that each of them do the same. And, when I’m cleared, I’m going to fill up my swimming pool with all the money that I sue out of them.’”

Well, I can’t argue with you on this. I had a very similar thought when these accusations first came out.

Unfortunately, as a judge, he knew there is no way he could get any money from a civil suit for accusations against a public figure. That law suit would be a money pit, not a money maker. And Moore’s campaign was cash-strapped when compared with the massive wealth being thrown against him by both parties.

“If I were guilty, I would give answers along the lines of what Moore said to Hannity.”

I disagree. Yes, Moore did not handle that interview well. He was probably surprised by how aggressive Hannity was, and it tripped him up. But he seemed to be more focussed on being precisely accurate than addressing the real accusations. The issue of a guy in his thirties dating girls in their late teens is something to raise eyebrows, but to me is not a scandal by itself. He should have simply focussed on the real accusation of assault.

The reason Moore was attacked so viciously was not because of him being a sexual pervert but because he has always stood against this. When he stood by his convictions on the law and Constitution regarding the ten commandments display, it did not further his political career. He lost his job. It made him the target of relentless attacks. He has been falsely accused of much more, including the claim that he said homosexuals should be murdered.

And when conservatives fall for this nonsense, they are just letting the uniparty call the shots and stay in power.

It’s a little late for a primary challenger. If one hasn’t realistically emerged yet, they won’t gain any traction now.

He won statewide election in 2013. Why would it be unreasonable to believe that absent those unprovable accusations he would have done so again?

Moore barely squeaked by in an election where Romney carried 60% of the state. He was also soundly beaten in two gubernatorial races; 2006 and 2010.

For argument’s sake, let’s say I agree that the 14 yo story is a lie. I’m not sure that I do, but set that aside for a moment.

If he dated teenagers that were above the age of consent at the time, that needs to be the central argument of his whole defense. He can say it was a different time then, but that he broke zero laws and he never forced himself in anyone. Period. That is not a hard answer to give, but it probably would have saved his candidacy. Now the seat is lost for 3 years, and chances are there will be times when that loss looms large.

This is big league politics, and the way the left has challenged every single special election seat like it was the super bowl should have told him they’d be gunning for him. And, the fact that the Compost blew a gaping hole in his campaign and that he didn’t have the wherewithal to realize Hannity was giving him a chance to clear himself of these charges and to give that disastrous of an interview tells me he had no business running for the Senate. Hannity probably even expressly told him ahead of time that he was going to let him set this story straight, and he still blew it.

Roy may be a good man, but he’s a horrendous politician. The country is hanging by a thread, and the communists are furious and on the march. This is serious business. We need politician who can get strikeouts - not give up cloud scraping home runs.

You are unfortunately right about this. Not everyone is cut out to be a politician. And conservatives are going to have to be on top of their game, because they’re going to be attacked relentlessly.

You write and thus argue like a child. I, as have others, pointed out your erroneous use of labeling Moore yet you persist in exposing yourself as incapable of learning. Shut up? smh

Ok, you’re vouching for him more than he vouched for himself, and there’s something wrong with me for identifying that discrepancy and inferring my own logical conclusions - conclusions that A LOT of Alabamans also arrived at the other day.

Just because he’s a Christian and is right on all the major policy issues doesn’t mean you have to defend all his mistakes. You are acting childish, which I now understand is not an insult - nor is calling someone stupid or all the other things you’ve said about me while you were complaining that I was insulting you.

That’s about as garbled and inscrutable as Ted Cruz rambling incoherently about rat-f***ers during the campaign.

Ted is that you, lol?

Moore was defeated completely by unlawful out of state votors bussed in.

We’ll see just how much of a president Trump is, in how he deals with this blatant assault on the election.

Oh that was a snappy rejoinder worthy of your idol, lol. Don’t try to hug your daughter on camera if she’s making booger-flicking motions at you to go away. Just a tip for the socially and emotionally impaired.
