These guys are entirely for show and only exist to provide their rolodex and services in opening doors.

As far as voting on critical business plans that they have no expertise in, they will vote as they are told to.

The essence of being a successful corruptocrat: be good boys, don’t rock the canoe.

It's a lot worse than that. It signals to political staff that if they take care of you, then when they are out of office you will take care of them. It is much less about any service that these guys can provide than it is the signal to the next round of appointees and their hangers on that all they have to do is play ball and after a few years it will be their turn to collect.
