The Left wants to castigate the military, but Hollywood is still about busine$$ and they understand there will still always be a space in the public psyche for films that show heroism.

Traditionally that meant military guys going out and smashing her national (FOREIGN) enemies.

But The Left can’t stand that, since America Is Bad.

The way they get around it:

An inner core of the bad US military has BETRAYED the common troops with some kind of nefarious, dirty business deal; they have BURNED our own guys, these nasty top brass who are gnashing their teeth.

Therefore you have Jason Bourne, the Punisher, etc etc.

They don’t really chose the obvious enemy —Islam— as the recipient of punches and bullets.

Good action? Yes.

OUR politics..? Actually no.

A good old example was Archie Bunker:

The writers and producers were living in a bubble.

They fully intended for Archie to be the villian, to be hated by the whole country —Meathead would ride to the rescue, being loved by all.

Mainstreet USA turned that completely upside-down:

Archie was an admittedly irascible but guileless HERO who laid the truth out plainly. Archie was The Everyman.

Meanwhile Meathead was a feckless complainer who needed to cut his hair.

Hollywood and the USA are operating in parallel universes, smack dab next to each other while never able to actually connect.

In an unguarded moment Letterman admitted it, too; “We can’t compete with CAT VIDEOS....”

And they CAN’T.
