The President is not elected to directly serve the people. He is elected by the states to serve the STATES and through them, the people. He the President of the United States, not the President of the American People.
The Founders were very wise to make it this way.
So yes, President Trump was duly elected. By more states than those that wanted Clinton (who were mostly high population areas along the coasts).
