If the governor of Minnesota was a Republican Franken would not be resigning.

Oh I would agree with that and I even think that some lobbyists in Minn have already lined up their guy (probably two months ago) to be the replacement person. My bet is on the governor appointing either himself (he’s 70 years old), or his Lt Governor (Tina Smith).

I noticed regional newspapers that some folks think Tina Smith gets the job as a caretaker and doesn’t run in the senate election when it comes up (leaving this to someone else). My guess is that she’d come back to Minn, and run for governor in 2019.
