This is the result of poor forestry and brush policies. None of this would happen if they deliberately did small and controlled burns through vulnerable areas, but I guess celebrities don’t like the occasional smell of smoke.
I was just looking at a map last night - Mississippi and Florida and several other SE states each use prescribed burning on over a million acres a year.
California was something like 50,000 acres (and a huge state!). The smog regulations had a lot to do with that change back in the 70’s iirc. And of course now it is “climate change” - which both prevents prescribed burns and “causes” the huge fires.
