A few years ago, I sent a letter to the son of a friend of mine. He was 18 or 19 and had just gotten married, against all advice, mine included to a girl just before he left for Marine boot camp.
My letter reminded him that all decisions, even stupid ones needed to be lived up to. I advised him to speak with his pastor and most of all to move out of her parents basement, where they were living. I told him it was now his responsibility to set up his household.
The girl texted me back questioning just how I, a guy who had known this kid well for ten years could dare to speak to him as I did.
She said that as a “PARTIAL ADULT”, she was qualified to make her own decisions.
Yes, she really said that.
