Amid the talk of draining swamps, restoring political might to blue-collar America and turning off the spigot of taxpayer cash that showers Washington, a familiar battle cry is ricocheting through this city: Move the bureaucrats out.
It has the ring of a Trumpian fantasy. Dislodge arms of the federal government from Washington and reattach them in faraway places, spreading the wealth generated by these well-paid agency workforces and forcing senior bureaucrats to face the people they affect.

Exactly the thought I’ve had for a while. Trump should make this happen “with all deliberate speed”.
Brilliant move. The less time these clowns spend in DC the fewer asinine laws can be written. There’s little remaining to take from US anyway.
I can only imagine these clowns with crowns living next door to those who elected them. Some might find more than a few who disagree with them. Give them a taste of reality, First Hand Experience.
I agree. The way to stop a pile of uranium from achieving critical mass is to break it up and store it separately in small chunks.
With today’s online infrastructure, there is no reason why the IRS couldn’t be moved to cheaper land in Kansas, Interior to Wyoming, and Education to - the dustbin.
With the videoconferencing technology we have today, is there any reason Congress needs to physically convene in DC? Log in from your state/district. Another major PITA and expense for the lobbyists.
I am all but for it.
Oh hell no. Put their ass in Detroit.
I am retiring to TN.
At the very least the Interior Department should be moved to the West where they’ve grabbed all our land.
“How about Leavenworth? “
Good one. I like it.
Lots of cheap land on the wind swept plains of Kansas etc. Set up double wides by the hundreds and put several agencies or departments there. Put the FBI headquarters in Detroit etc.
Relocate the entire Congress out of DC sounds like a great idea as long as we dont have to build and stock bomb proof security bunkers for each of them. Telecommunication by DC government officials will save us all major money and make them personally accessible to the people they supposedly represent.
LOL! I hear you.
Not in my back yard. We in their right mind would want government “workers” in their proximity?
Exempt sanctuary cities and states.
I have been for this for a long time now. In 97% democrat/Communist DC, it would be hard to find employees more loyal to The United States of America and the US Constitution than their political party. That is the commie way.
Plus real estate would be more cost effective.
Cost of living would be lower for employees.
Spreading federal agencies would make the homeland safer. Pretty easy for Terrorists to neutralize our government in one act.
Lobbyists and journalists would have to travel more for their work. Who cares?
Dormitories and offices that are neither air conditioned nor heated.
All “climate scientists” get moved to the northern border of North Dakota... :-)
There was supposedly a push to do this after 9/11. Decentralizing the Federal Government. Nothing ever really happened.
I was working at Rock Island Arsenal at the time. Used to be over 10,000 employees working on an Island in the Mississippi River between Iowa and Illinois.
Naturally ‘protected’ and a half dozen beautiful historic homes, lots of room and a beautiful setting. Also a national cemetery.
VA? FBI? Agriculture? Perfect for any of them.
That’s right. Iv’e said for many years, the fed agencies/departments in D.C. should decentralized away from D.C. Not need for public servants to occupy oppoulant expensive building in D.C.
Put down a few hundred double wides in Hacksaw Arkansas, and Hogjaw Wyoming. These agencies will be fine.
I left out a few details of my proposal to move the Capital to Lebanon KS.
1. It is the geographic center of the lower forty-eight.
2. The bureaucracy wouldn’t move there...it would be spread around.
3. No accommodations for lobbyists or other hangerons.
4. How to pay for it? Ready? Sell DC off to the highest bidder as a theme park.
HOOAHH!
