Traditional US allies are among a growing chorus condemning President Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Saudi Arabia called it "unjustified and irresponsible", while France and the UK said they did not support the decision.
But Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu hailed it as "historic" and said he was sure more countries would follow suit.
President Trump's move reversed decades of US policy on one of the thorniest issues between Israel and Palestinians.
Hundreds of Israeli troops have been deployed to the West Bank amid a day of protests and strikes by Palestinians.

“STATUS”? That’s easy. Both the Jewish Torah and Muslim Koran explicitly state Jerusalem belongs to the Jews. Allah is quoted as saying all of Israel, the so-called “West Bank” and even Jordan (!) belong to the Jews. If you say otherwise, you are an Islamic apostate.

Perhaps the world wishes to ignore Jerusalem as the capital city because it is a city where Arabs and Jews have learned to (mostly) peacefully coexist. Not quite the script more radical Arabs want the world to see.

No country is entitled to decide for any other country how each country decides to organize their own administrative governance and the location and name of its capital.

only about the gazillionith time the “world” has “condemned” Trump. Fortunately, Trump don’t care what the “world” thinks of him and will continue to “put America First”.
(In retrospect, all of the “condemning” of Trump by the “world”, the U.S. fake stream media, the international fake stream media, etc. throughout the campaign and afterwards, probably immunized him from caring about such “condemnation”. I also suspect that same incessant negative drumbeat has pretty much desensitized nearly all but the most die-hard Trump-haters, and thus most people have tuned it out like Trump has.)
