Bottom line, an uninvited, unqualified sign language interpreter got her 15 minutes of fame by being on TV... and is probably now famous in her 'community' because put one over on 'The Man.'
It's all obvious when you look at the pictures at the link.

One comment at the FOX News site said she be signing in Ebonics.

This has happened before.
I think SNL developed a skit making fun of a previous instance.

Tampa Police Department spokeswoman Janelle McGregor told FOX13 Tampa in a statement officials are conducting an internal review because they didn't request an interpreter for the Nov. 28 news conference, and are trying to figure out "if someone requested that she attend or exactly who sent her to provide services." NAILED IT!
"Hello, officer. I am the sign language interpreter for the Police Chief."
"Go right ahead, maam."

They should go back to the old method.

This something that’s annoyed me for quite a while...and I don’t mean deaf or hearing-impaired persons.
It seems the inclusion of sign interpreters is yet another subtle but unmistakable method of virtue signaling from the Inclusion Police.
It’s one thing to have an interpreter in life or death situations - hurricanes, fires and floods - but closed captioning is already in widespread use at both the point of transmission and receipt, even for real time conversations (eg cable news discussion programs).
Sorry to say it but interpreters are distracting with all the facial histrionics even if such emphasis is part and parcel of ‘inflecting’ sign language.

We’ve had so many of them “outted”, would it be easier to just have someone type the TTY or captions?

Automated real-time transcription is a thing nowadays.
Heck, we could easily have automated real-time sign-language animation.

That’s my point; why have a real live person doing the ASL, when you can have it done as closed captioning?
*Disclaimer - I am not deaf, but am a bit hard of hearing, and I use the CC on my TV all the time. Turning it off just for sporting events (as the words always tend to cover up the action).
