Trump’s lawyer: Presidents cannot obstruct justice
NY POST ^ | December 4, 2017 | Mark Moore

A lawyer for President Trump who admitted writing an eyebrow-raising tweet about former national security adviser Michael Flynn said a commander in chief cannot obstruct justice.

The “president cannot obstruct justice because he is the chief law enforcement officer under [the Constitution’s Article II] and has every right to express his view of any case,” John Dowd, Trump’s personal lawyer, told Axios.

He told the website he wrote a tweet posted on Trump’s personal account on Saturday that acknowledged the president knew Flynn had lied to the FBI when he asked former FBI Director James Comey to lay off investigating him.

“I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide! ,” the tweet said.

Dowd said the posting did not provide evidence of White House obstruction.

“The tweet did not admit obstruction. That is an ignorant and arrogant assertion,” he said.

B ut the tweet immediately raised questions about when Trump knew about Flynn’s lying.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) said the message, not the author, is the troubling part of the tweet.

Yikes...this reminds me of Nixon saying it’s not a crime if POTUS does it. I’m a bit worried about this - they’re determined to get Trump for something - anything.

The president has the Constitutional power to stop any investigation that is occurring within the executive branch, for whatever reason. It would be unconstitutional to impeach a president who is simply exercising his Constitutional power.

Really ? the Richard Nixon defense ?

No, not really. It's the Constitutional defense.

I believe Nixon was accused of obstruction of justice.

Trump needs a better lawyer.

Trump’s ability to make statements to the public via Twitter comes from the First Amendment.

“the tweet immediately raised questions about when Trump knew about Flynn’s lying”

The tweet is probably merely another example of Donald Trump’s defective memory, as any serious reader of the Washington Post knows.

Trump’s memory recall process assumes that he said or did what he should have said or did and not what he actually said or did. It how people with defective recall systems sometimes function. Trump is about 70 years of age. It is a sign of senility.

“I’m so sick of the constant war against our President. These people...”

Those people demanded vehemently before the election that we and Trump accept the results of the vote but refuse to do so themselves.

I’ll take Trump’s lousy memory over their lousy behavior come the next election.

Considering the fate of Flynn and Martha Stewart, I think it is best that Trump follow the practice of major corporations on not commenting on ongoing investigations or lawsuits.

If they try to impeach Trump, it may end in Civil War and lawlessness. Pray it will not come to that point. But if it should, the sheeple will be scattered to the wind. But hopefully, the many millions who are prepared will survive and overcome the evil that has befallen this nation.

Maybe there needs to be a commission appointed to oversee the present commission and end it or keep it on track. They have found no evidence of collusion and no one has been charged with collusion so why are they wandering around into other areas.

Since the only "wrongdoing" was Flynn's allegedly lying to the FBI, and that wasn't concealed, nor was Flynn instructed to do it, there's nothing to obstruct.
