Being a human in 2017 means that every single fact about you likely exists somewhere on the internet, and if youve ever done something tasteless or reprehensible that youve tried to hide, evidence of that offense could surface at any time. Joy Reid is currently reckoning with this truth, as a Twitter user dug up internet archives of the MSNBC hosts blog, unearthing crass homophobic jokes.
Mediaite reports that the posts come from her now-defunct blog, the Reid Report, which she ran while simultaneously writing for the Miami Herald. According to Twitter user @Jamie_Maz, who accessed the blog using internet archiving service Wayback Machine, Reid wrote 12 bigoted blogs between 2007 and 2009, in which she attacked former Florida governor Charlie Crist and referred to him as Miss Charlie a total of 17 times.
Jamie M @Jamie_Maz 1/x From 2007 to 2009 @joyannreid authored a dozen homophobic posts not only attempting to out Charlie Crist as gay, she attacked & mocked him for being so.
She repeatedly referred to him as "Miss Charlie" and tagged posts about him under "gay politicians." (thread) 1:39 PM - Nov 30, 2017
While rumors about Crists sexual orientation have circulated, he has always denied them. However, that didnt stop Reid from labeling blogs about him with the tag gay politicians and spreading the conspiracy theory. In one deplorable post, she asserted that Crist likely spent his honeymoon wishing he were with a male waiter instead of his wife.

Jamie M @Jamie_Maz Replying to @Jamie_Maz @JoyAnnReid 3/x She makes a joke about John McCain "tapping" Crist, says Crist spent his honeymoon ogling male waiters and thinking about how he didn't want to see his wife naked, and mocked Crist's big gay wedding. 1:41 PM - Nov 30, 2017 10 10 Replies 231 231 Retweets 420 420 likes Twitter Ads info and privacy I can just see poor Charlie on the honeymoon, ogling the male waiters and thinking to himself, god, do I actually have to see her naked ? she wrote. Reid also published a blog in which she suggested that Crist only married a woman because it wouldve somehow helped him become John McCains running mate in the 2008 presidential election.
Reid, who frequently tries to smear Bernie Sanders supporters and progressives as the real bigots, apologized in a statement provided to the Wrap, which is excerpted here:
Let me be clear: at no time have I intentionally sought to demean or harm the LGBT community, which includes people whom I deeply love. My goal, in my ham-handed way, was to call out potential hypocrisy.
Nonetheless, as someone who is not a member of the LGBT community, I regret the way I addressed the complex issue of the closet and speculation on a persons sexual orientation with a mocking tone and sarcasm. It was insensitive, tone deaf and dumb. There is no excusing it not based on the taste-skewing mores of talk radio or the then-blogosphere, and not based on my intentions.
In addition to friends and coworkers and viewers, I deeply apologize to Congressman Crist, who was the target of my thoughtlessness. My critique of anti-LGBT positions he once held but has since abandoned was legitimate in my view. My means of critiquing were not.
In the years since I went from blogger to opinion journalist, I have also learned, through brilliant friends and allies in the LGBT activist community, how to better frame my critiques of those who challenge peoples right to love who they want, marry them, and walk in the world as fully free people.
Re-reading those old blog posts, I am disappointed in myself. I apologize to those who also are disappointed in me. Life can be humbling. It often is. But I hope that you know where my heart is, and that I will always strive to use my words for good. I know better and I will do better. You can read the full statement here.
This post was updated after Reid issued her apology.
“Well, at least they arent engaged in the homophilia of the pervert loving left.”
Every time the left succeeds in inserting one of these neologisms into the public consciousness, it is a battle won for them and lost to us.
Do you remember a time before the terms “male chauvinist,” “feminist,” and “sexist” were coined? Remember when “diversity” didn’t mean “death to America?” It’s only very recently that the nefarious term “gun violence” made its appearance.
They tried to introduce “fake news” as shorthand for “anything the proglodytes don’t like,” but thanks to President Trump and the Internet, that one blew up in their faces.
Words are important. They govern not just what we think, but what we *can* think. We must be alert to these attempts to alter our thinking, and oppose them.
Not “gay,” but sodomite.
Not “trans,” but fake—as in fake man, fake woman.
Not “sexist,” but man-with-common-sense.
Not “feminist,” but shit goblin.
If people don’t see why this is important, I can only beg them to study it further.
I like proglodyte.
And I understand your concern.
Not too long ago I exchanged some posts with a guy who would not entertain the idea that there were other senses of politics and political than the Marxist take on these things and he did so more or less because he opposed Marxism.
Even opposing Marxism he let the Marxist have some control over they way he expressed himself.
I didn’t try to point out that he’d already let the Marxist inject their sense of the word into times and places where they don’t belong mainly because I saw the discussion wasn’t going to go anywhere.
Simply: if there was ever a time that some idea or public service ever arose where socialism etc were not and could not be the causes for them it is a fundamental error to assume these things only arise because of socialism/progressivism etc ... as indeed many leftist do assume (thus we see comments like how opposing their “progress” means rolling back civilization itself).
Btw ... some on the left make homophilia a positive but I’m for turning it into a pejorative, let a word sour in their mouths for a change.
I use “Islamophile” to similar ends.
My somewhat pessimistic outlook is that people who are still leftist are beyond hope. We need to get the rest of the population on board with sanity, make sure everybody is on to their tricks.
Don’t know about beyond hope, but if it walks like, talks like and believes like an example Romans 1:18-32 in action we shouldn’t be surprised should we discover when all is said and done that Romans 1:18-32 was in play.
“we shouldnt be surprised should we discover when all is said and done that Romans 1:18-32 was in play.”
Yup. The left claims to comprise half the population. However, only half the population votes, and they’re only half that.
So the question is whether we can survive God abandoning a quarter of us. I don’t think He will abandon us all for the sake of that quarter.
Her blog posts would have been surprisingly accurate if they were about Obama.
