I was born in 1950 and I went to excellent schools. I was always taught NBC = born here.
When George Romney was running in 1968, it was an issue that he was born in Mexico. It was a little issue in 1964 that Goldwater was born in the Arizona Territory.
I had excellent classes in US government and the US constitution (thanks, Mr. Benovsky!). I never never ran across the “two US citizen parents” argument until it came up with Obama.
It makes sense, but it was not common understanding when I was growing up.
Hi. Thanks. But, Actually, citizenship by blood of parents goes back many centuries in law. Your great professor didnt finish giving you his citizenship lecture before the bell rang indeed mcshames claim to eligibility, also romneys, and a couple more were based on blood not situs of birth
That is also as it was explained to me when I registered the birth of my first son in Bangkok.
My 2nd son was born in the US, but his mom wasn't yet a US Citizen, so that 2nd son also isn't a NBC.
The 3rd son born in the US after his mom naturalized in the only one of the three eligible to be President.
