Don’t get me wrong I love and practice with hand guns of every stripe all the time. Out in the open with ferals pointing pistols at you in the street...he outgunned them with a rifle.

A pistol is something you use to fight your way back to your rifle. He used the correct weapon. Very good. If you know you might be going to gunfight, you take a rifle.
The rifle has many advantages:
- More powerful cartridge
- Greater engagement range due to longer sight radius (or optic)
- Greater capacity due to greater standard magazine capacity (30 vs. 15 or less)
