North Korean soldier’s medical report exposes the regime’s evil
NY Post ^ | Nov 24, 2017 | Post Editorial Board

‘Oh” is all that’s known for the name of the North Korean soldier whose escape to South Korea became a viral video. But we do have a bit more to the story.

Shots hit the 24-year-old five times in the lungs and intestines as he ran to freedom in the heavily guarded border zone. He’s now recovering in intensive care. His stomach contained raw corn kernels — a clear sign of brutal food shortages, though North Korea’s border guards are usually the regime’s most trusted, and favored, troops.

With “more than 20 years of experience as a surgeon,” said Lee Cook-jong, Oh’s chief surgeon, “I have not found parasites this big in the intestines of South Koreans” — or anywhere outside medical textbooks.

The refugee also has tuberculosis and hepatitis B. At 5 feet 5 inches and 130 pounds, he’s much shorter and lighter than the average South Korean his age.

You can see why he’s the third North Korean soldier to defect this year. And why the regime has its forces digging new trenches and planting obstacles to prevent any similar escapes, and reportedly has also switched out the troops that had been on the border.

I don't know how to stop North Korea's nukes or artillery, but the infantry could be stopped within a few hundred yards of the border with some good buffet lines.

Had to read that a couple of times, scratch my head for a good infantry use of a "buffet" line, and finally chuckled at my misdirection. :)

Try Smorgasbord next time. ;)

Pre-invasion, just think what could be realized with a million helium balloons carrying Nachos. :)

Like they say, "When corn goes in on the cob, and comes out on the cob".

Friends with a composting toilet tell me that emptying it can create a huge tomato patch!

I think the “eat raw everything” caveman diet gang would have it that raw. I believe it’s also a thing among some health huts.

I guess I am a provincial hayseed never having met an adherent to the paleo diet.

Considering that the prevalent theories as to why human population expanded rapidly in prehistoric times are the inventions of cooking and brewing beer I don’t think that the theories that the paleo diet is healthy holds much water.

Sure. Just tell them about the squirming parasites. They’ll be crawling over each other to get to them.

It is hard for me to imagine raw corn beating corn grilled in the husk.

Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t believe corn kernels are broken down very much in the digestive process.

Correct. You have to steam roll or crack the corn kernel to get at the protein inside for digestion.

Send them Ben & Jerrys ice cream as chemical warfare. The troops will die from heart attacks like the owner did.

“.....I don’t believe corn kernels are broken down very much in the digestive process.”....

Might depend if the kernels were similar to “dry” corn or “fresh” corn. Me thinks the “fresh” would be much softer and easier digestible.

I believe that was one of the problems in the Irish potato famine. By the time the government in London realised the calamity that had struck Ireland with the failure of the potato harvest it was too late to buy up staple foods around Europe, the harvests in general were poor and by late Autumn everything had been sold.

Buyers in the US told them there was plenty of what the British called maize, what Americans call corn and what became known as Indian corn. Thinking this would do the British bought up shiploads of the stuff to sell to starving Irish peasants.

However the corn needed to be milled twice in special mills, none of which were available and the Irish, knowing no different, simply boiled it and ate it like that, apparently it caused excruciating pain as the kernels simply ripped through the digestive tract.

If I were a South Korean surgeon, and my medical textbook had a big parasite in it, I would return the book to the bookstore and get a refund.

The CIA should grab those corn seeds and do DNA test on then to see if they are Monsanto or ADM corn hybrids.

Great idea! If the NORKS are illegally using Monsanto seeds the country will be overrun with lawyers and blizzards of legal documents in no time.

Unless I’m mistaken, I don’t believe corn kernels are broken down very much in the digestive process.

The key word there is "RAW." I've prepared enough game to tell the difference between raw and cooked corn kernels that have been digested.
