Should I forgive the driver too?? How about you, have you forgiven her?? Even though we have no right to forgive a trespass which happened to someone else, let’s all sing kumbyah and have a pity party — we’ll FEEEEEEL better, and that really is the bottom line for today’s Christian. Not what was said, who was the audience, nor what was the context.
Have you ever read King David’s final instructions to Solomon? Do so. He’s someone who would advise that a DUI driver be captured, gutted, and hung.
How did Jesus respond when asked how many times we should forgive someone?
For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them. 21Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Up to seven times? 22Jesus answered, I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!
Where did that come from but the Old Testament where one wanted to wreak vengeance 7 time what what done to him....
If you're gonna use Scripture, don't cherry pick - it is non-productive and suited to those who wish to only use that which feels right for their own personal feelings. It is bearing false witness to the very Scripture one tries to use to justify one's own shortcoming.
Our human hearts are pretty vile at times and so many try to forgive their own inadequacies by pointing out half-truths with disregard to what Jesus preached - while calling ourselves Christians....ironic.
