Have they ever thought of getting a part-time job, especially in food service?
My kid has a part time job, in his field that pays $20 an hour, 401K, educational reimbursement and medical. He’s studying aerospace engineering not majoring in multiple gender studies and Frisbee.
His school has no cafeteria. Students live in on campus apartment and are responsible for their own meals. Tons cheaper

In my first year at college, I scored the dream job - working Friday-Sunday nights at the main college bar as a bartender. Made great money (mostly tips), and got to meet all the girls.
Needless to say, I kept that job through to graduation.
